Oklahoma Futurity Trials Set for Friday, Saturday

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–MARCH 4, 2024–A total of 144 2-year-olds -- all of whom will be making their first official starts -- are entered in this week's Oklahoma Futurity (G2) trials at Remington Park.

Eight 300-yard heats will be contested on Friday and Saturday. The five fastest qualifiers from each night of trials will meet in the $500,000-est. Oklahoma Futurity final on March 23.

Seventy-two juveniles are entered in Friday's trials, led by Reliance Ranches' AJ Princess. A sorrel daughter of world champion Apollitical Jess trained by Cody Noel, AJ Princess recorded the fastest winning time from 13 training races on February 15, as the filly went 250 yards in :13.722 while racing against a reported 20-mph head wind.

AJ Princess was a $60,000 purchase from breeder Rancho El Cabresto at last year's Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale. The filly drew post 4 and will be ridden by Mario Delgado in Friday's first trial.

Also on Friday, Dee Keener -- last year's leading trainer during the Remington Park spring Quarter Horse meet -- will send out Finn McOol, a son of champion KVN Corona racing for Planefun LLC and a $37,000 buy from breeders J. Garvan Kelly and J. Lloyd Yother at last year's Ruidoso Select Sale. Finn McOol prepped for the Oklahoma Futurity trials with a head victory in one of 10 schooling races on February 23. The gelding went 250 yards in :13.584 while aided by a reported 18-mph tail wind.

Finn McOol drew post 8 and will be ridden by Roman Cruz in the fourth heat.

Other promising 2-year-olds entered in Friday's trials include Rick and Connie Dickson's Kollys Capi, a homebred daughter of Capo de Capi and a training race winner on February 21. The filly drew the rail post and will be ridden by Roman Cruz for trainer Josue Garcia in the sixth trial.

Saturday's trials also attracted 72 juveniles. Jose Francisco-Robles' Kingpyn, a Favorite Cartel colt and a $150,000 purchase from breeder Bobby D. Cox at last year's Heritage Place Yearling Sale. Kingpyn won a schooling race by three-quarters of a length on February 15, as the bay colt went 250 yards in :13.590 while aided by a reported 5-mph tail wind.

Kingpyn drew post 8 and will be ridden by James Flores for trainer Pedro L. Hernandez.
