$1M Feature Mr Jess Colt Tops Ruidoso Select Yearling Session Two On Saturday

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM–SEPTEMBER 2, 2023–The first Feature Me Jess colt to sell at Ruidoso in 10 years brought a record-breaking final bid of $1,000,000 during Saturday's second-session of the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, to become the highest race-bred Quarter Horse Yearling to sale at auction.

Elite Racing signed the ticket for Hip 239 Mr Pacmann, a colt out of Faith And Courage by StoliJumonville Farms, Agent for Bunny and J.E. Jumonville, Jr. consigned the half-brother to RG2 winner Jessalittlecourage, stakes-placed Dashing With Courage and RG2-placed Blue Courage.

"A remarkable sale tonight, at least 29 yearlings traded for over a $100,000 each," All American Ruidoso Horse Sales Company Assistant Walt Wiggins said. "The million-dollar yearling is a possible all-time record price, and the $725,000 yearling is a near record price."

All American Ruidoso Horse Sales Company reported 242 of the 297 horses through the ring in two sessions were sold for gross figures of $17,411,500, at an average of $71,948, a 4% increase over two sessions last year, and a median of $47,000.  The 19% RNA rate represented the 45 yearling who failed to sell.

Hott Favorite Partners paid $725,000 for Saturday's second high-seller Hip 278 Hott Favorite, a half-brother to two-time champion Hotstepper, Ruidoso Derby(G1) winner Hotsempting and Ed Burke Million Futurity(G1) runner-up In Hott Pursuit. Fulton Quien Sabe Ranches, LP cosigned the Favorite Cartel colt from the Tres Seis mare Pandorum.

Shaun Hubbard, La Feliz Montana Ranch, LLC and Ray Willis partnered on Saturday's third high-seller, Hip 265 Celtic Wonder Boy, at $450,000. Marty Powers, Agent for Kelly Yother Equine, LLC consigned the colt by leading first-crop sire Flying Cowboy 123 from the Tres Seis mare Three Green Leaves. Celtic Wonder Boy is a half-brother to four black type including Grade 3 winner Celtic Emblem and Oklahoma Bred Derby(RG3) winner DF Aj Green Leaves.

Through the first two sessions Elite Racing is the leading buyer with the one purchase for $1,00,000. Reliance Ranches, LLC has 10 head for $857,000 and Hot Favorite Partners has the one yearling for $725,000.

Marty Powers, Agent for Kelly Yother Equine, LLC is the leading consignor or agent through two sessions with 16 head grossing $1,268,000. Fulton Quien Sabe Ranches, LP sold six head for $1,229,000 and Burns Ranch, Agent had 13 head gross $1,161,000.

Favorite Cartel is the leading sale sire of yearlings (by average, two or more sold) through two sessions with 34 head averaging $117,471.  Apollitical Jess sold 19 yearlings for a $103,947 average and Good Reason SA had three yearlings average $99,167.
