Two-Length Victory For Vintage Candy In John Deere Will Rogers Juvenile Challenge Trials

CLAREMORE, OK–SEPTEMBER 12, 2023–Vintage Candy clocks the fastest time from four trials under jockey Rolando Raudales in the $30,000 added John Deere Will Rogers Distaff Challenge Tuesday afternoon.

Vintage Candy started out her juvenile season with three consecutive wins at Remington Park, including the Laico Bird Stakes [G3]. The daughter of Jess Good Candy slowed down in her next three outs, including an eighth place finish in the FL Lady Bug Stakes [G3]. 

But she's back to redeem herself in her 350-yard trial at Will Rogers Downs. Vintage Candy clocked a 98 speed index in :17.579 seconds for an impressive two-length victory over Cartel Night. Trained by Samuel Valdivia, the post-time favorite's winning efforts paid $2.80 to win and upped her career earnings to $66,290.

Bred in Oklahoma by Stephan and Lisa Ralston, Vintage Candy is out of Turnin Back Time by First Down Dash. She was a $13,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate and is now owned by Edder Montes and Jose Varelas. 

Socially Fun, ridden by Cody Wainscott, won the first trial of the John Deere Juvenile Challenge in :17.762 seconds for the second best time. The multiple winning daughter of FDD Dynasty broke her maiden in her first of four outs at Remington Park this year and has $18,735 in the bank.

Bred and owned by Regina Laymon in Oklahoma, Socially Fun is out of the Corona Cartel mare Socially Significant. She is conditioned by Victor Ibarra.
