FARGO, ND—AUGUST 1, 2026–After knocking on the door in stakes company earlier this season, Whose Da Boss earned his first career victory in style Saturday afternoon, capturing the $22,600 NDQHRA Derby for North Dakota-bred 3-year-olds at North Dakota Horse Park.
Ridden by Kody Kellenberger, the Robert Johnson trainee battled between rivals before drawing clear to win by 1¼ lengths in :20.408 for the 400 yards, earning a 92 speed index over a fast track.
The homebred gelding, owned and bred by Billy Buchholz, was coming off a runner-up finish in the Dan Lockie Derby at Miles City earlier this year. The son of Freighttrain B out of the FDD Dynasty mare Dynasty Time improved his record to 7-1-3-0, while the $10,170 winner's share boosted his earnings to $34,858.
Travelin Princess finished a determined second under Carlos Banda after racing wide throughout, crossing the wire in :20.636 with an 86 speed index for owners John Bercier and Mark Allery, who also trains the filly.
Bred by Doug Demontigny, the daughter of Travelin Miracle out of Rare Hula has compiled a record of 15-3-3-2 with earnings of $23,169. As a 2-year-old, she was runner-up in both the NDQHRA Northern Plains Futurity and the Rusty Wilson Memorial Futurity.
Prized Five Bar overcame a troubled start after hopping at the break and finished gamely for third under Scott Bethke, stopping the clock in :20.650 with an 86 speed index.
Owned by Legacy Ranch and trained by Robert Johnson, the gelding captured last year's NDQHRA Futurity and VBA Open Futurity.
Bred by Legacy Ranch, the son of Five Bar Cartel out of Panther Prize Me now sports a record of 11-3-0-4 with earnings of $26,614.
Whirlaway Dream, Tarlas Hot Dasher, Bodies Blow Out, Kool Dean, and Flo Sixes Ridin completed the order of finish.
