POCATELLO, ID–MAY 3, 2026– Five trial heats were contested May 3 at Pocatello Downs to determine the finalists for the $15,000-added Pocatello Downs Spring Futurity, with two-year-olds racing 300 yards. The final is scheduled for May 25.
Yr Bruno and jockey Luis Cruz Ruiz posted the fastest qualifying time of :15.851, earning an 88 speed index while winning the fourth trial by three-quarters of a length.
The gelding flew from the gates and controlled the race throughout for breeder, owner, and trainer Wesley Pierson.
Sired by champion Ivory James, he is out of the Dash Ta Fame mare R Brown Sugar. Yr Bruno was making his career debut.
Miss Royal Hawk recorded the second-fastest qualifying time of :15.880 with an 87 speed index, winning the third trial by one length under Minor Arana.
The filly made a strong middle move to take command for breeder and owner Ismael Villarreal and trainer Jose Rosales Gomez.
She is by The Cartel Hawk and out of the Royal Shake Em mare Miss Royal Rumble, a winner, and was also making her first start.
One Fast S secured the third-fastest qualifying time of :15.968 while earning an 84 speed index in the same trial as the fastest qualifier.
Ridden by Jesus Canales, the filly closed with a late run to finish second, well clear of the rest. Owned and bred by Michael K. McKell and trained by Sergio Canales, she is by champion Valiant Hero and out of the One Famous Eagle mare Melisa With One S, a winning mare. This also marked her first career start.
Also among the qualifiers, Wacky Wednesday broke outward at the start but still finished best to win his trial in :16.220, while Kvn Popped Off and Haileys Runaway both showed sharp early speed, each flying from the gate to score in their respective trials. All Gussyed Up added a strong runner-up effort after drifting in during the stretch in her trial.
The Pocatello Downs Spring Futurity final on May 25 is expected to feature a competitive group of juveniles, with several first-time starters showing both early speed and finishing ability in the trials.
