ROCKY VIEW COUNTY, ALB—SEPTEMBER 20, 2025—Miss Fancy Nancy added another achievement to her impressive resume on Saturday with a gate-to-wire win in the $15,241 (US) Cup Classic Stakes at Century Downs.
The 4-year-old daughter of Big Lew broke first and refused to yield, holding off post-time favorite Fired by a half-length. She covered the 440 yards in 21.752 seconds while running into a stiff 20 mph headwind, earning a 92 speed index.
Miss Fancy Nancy’s victory was worth $8,078 to owners/breeders Barry and Janice Sather, pushing her career earnings to $97,262. The payout was $5.10 on a $2.00 wager.
Ridden by Daniel Tavares and trained by Misael Moreno, Miss Fancy Nancy secured her third stakes win of the season. Earlier this year, she also captured the Century Mile Sprint Stakes and the Princess Stakes, while finishing second in the Old Timers Classic Stakes and third in the Century Mile Championship Challenge.
The Alberta-bred filly has performed exceptionally well, placing in 15 out of her 20 races and securing seven victories, four of which were in stakes events. She has consistently excelled in stakes races, making 12 appearances and finishing fourth or better in 11 of those outings.
She is out of the Favorite Cartel mare Singles Cruise.
Runner-up Fired, a 4-year-old gelding by Fly Thru The Fire, surged late under jockey Alexander Marti but came up just short, clocking 21.854 seconds with a 90 speed index.
Bred in California by Steve D. Burns, DVM, he is out of the Separatist mare Ruths Chris. Owned by Jerry Stojan and conditioned by William Leech, Fired was a $18,000 purchase at the 2022 Heritage Place Mixed Sale.
The multiple stakes winner has been a consistent rival to Miss Fancy Nancy this year, capturing the Old Timers Classic Stakes and finishing second in both the Century Mile Sprint Stakes and Century Mile Championship Challenge Stakes. Overall, he has started 17 times with five victories, nine seconds, one third, and $83,526 in earnings.
Third-place finisher Pretty Sweet Jess, also campaigned by Stojan and trained by Leech, crossed the wire four lengths behind Fired under jockey Ricardo Moreno. The 4-year-old daughter of One Sweet Jess stopped the clock in 22.658 seconds for the 440 yards.
Pretty Sweet Jess was bred in California by Veronica Gail Kawananakoa and is out of the First Down Dash mare Pretty Lethal. Purchased for $17,000 at the 2022 Heritage Place Mixed Sale, Pretty Sweet Jess has built a decorated career highlighted by an eight-race win streak through her freshman and sophomore campaigns, including five stakes victories.
This season, Pretty Sweet Jess won the Evergreen Park Distaff Challenge Stakes, placed fourth in the Old Timers Classic Stakes, and sixth in the CTM Championship Challenge. From 15 starts, she owns nine wins and $141,193 in earnings.
Not Easy Being Me, ridden by Daneil Garcia, placed fourth, and She Wears The Pantz, with Andrew Poon in the irons, placed fifth.
