ALBUQUERQUE, NM–SEPTEMBER 19, 2025–126 two-year-olds turned out Friday at The Downs at Albuquerque for 14 trial heats to the $1.2 million-estimated New Mexico State Fair Futurity-RG2, with the top ten finishers by time earning their way into the October 12 final. The next ten fastest will compete in the $35,000-added Juvenile, also on Futurity day.

The star of the evening came late when Pour Me A Drinkk posted the fastest qualifying time of 19.272 seconds for 400 yards. Breaking his maiden in style, the Prospect To The Top gelding overcame a fourth-place break, surged at first call, and drew away for a powerful 4 ½-length victory in the second-to-last trial of the day.

Piloted by James Flores, the gelding races for owner-trainer-breeder Fred Danley of New Mexico and now sports a record of one win, one second, and one third from three starts with earnings of $12,200. Pour Me A Drinkk is out of the First Moonflash mare First Cowgirl Flash.

Second fastest qualifier Eddy Cartel kept his perfect record intact with his third consecutive win, stopping the clock in 19.536 seconds with a 91 speed index.

The son of Big Daddy Cartel broke sharply in the eighth heat and never looked back, cruising to a 1 ¼-length win over King Of The Rode. Bred in New Mexico by Eduardo Mendoza, the gelding is owned by Paul Blanchard and trained by James J. Gonzales III.

Jockey Joseph Belloc, Jr. was aboard for the wire-to-wire score. Eddy Cartel is out of Em Bodacious Chick by Bodacious Dash and has earned $23,320.

Sure Hit delivered the third fastest qualifying effort of 19.553, giving him his second career win. The Jet Black Patriot gelding, out of the Bayern TB mare Merchant Of Hope TB, was favored in his trial and delivered with authority, winning by 1 ¾ lengths over Forbidden Wins with a 91 speed index.

He races for owners Christopher J. Lykins, Conda Maze, and Downtime Enterprises LLC and was bred in New Mexico by Bryan and Megan Petty. Conditioned by Clinton Crawford and ridden by Jacob Enriquez, Sure Hit has finished on the board in all four starts with earnings of $36,623, including a third-place finish in the New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity-G2 at SunRay Park earlier this year.
