CLAREMORE, OK–NOVEMBER 19, 2023–Jc Black Mamba raced to her third consecutive win on Sunday when she defeated Miss Ivory Jane by a neck in a blanket-finish to the $95,576 OQHRA Mystery Derby at Will Rogers Downs.
Jc Black Mamba put in a strong late run under jockey Bryan Candanosa to complete the 350 yards in :17.518 seconds, a 101 speed index with a 17 mph tailwind.
Waylan Melton trains the daughter of champion sire Ivory James for owner Jose Cervantes, Jr. Bred in Oklahoma by Jose Cervantes, the black filly is out of the Rare Form mare Fine Clover. Jc Black Mamba picked up the winner's purse valued at $38,731 today to increase her bankroll to $117,393.
Runner-up Miss Ivory Jane, also a daughter of Ivory James, earned $17,904 for finishing second. Jason Olmstead conditions the Oklahoma homebred for owner-breeder Brenda Reiswig.
Out of the Valiant Hero mare Red Velvet Hero, Miss Ivory Jane has earned $62,424 in 12 starts. Ramiro Garcia was riding.
A nose back in the blanket finish, Dennis The G Menace earned $11,769 for third. Trainer Salimm Hernandez named jockey Erick Esqueda to ride the Kool Wagon gelding for owner Double G Ranch LLC.
Fernanda Avalos bred the 3-year-old in Oklahoma from the Volcom mare Shelby C. He has earned $38,235 in 11 starts.
Relentless Diamond, Relentless Okie, Big Lew Love, R Ladys Dynasty, Miss Ellens Angel, Double Didget and My Vgw Hero completed the field.
