FDD Scout Wins $100,000 Ruidoso Juvenile Invitational

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—JUNE 13, 2021—Fdd Scout, a $95,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale repurchase for owner-breeder Paragon Farms LLC, defeated Spanish Steps by ¾'s Sunday afternoon in the $100,000 Ruidoso Juvenile Invitational at Ruidoso Downs.

Ridden by jockey Tanner Thedford, FDD Scout recovered nicely from a slight hop at the start and brush from the gate to complete the 350 yards in :17.599 seconds, a 93 speed index over the "fast" Ruidoso racing surface.

Conditioned by trainer Trey Wood, the son of world champion sire FDD Dynasty, has a perfect 2-for-2 record after winning his Ruidoso Futurity(G1) trial on day 2 in his career debut. He just missed qualifying for the $1-million final after posting the 6th fastest time from 158 2-year-olds who competed in16 trials on the second day. He has earned $48,894.

Bred in Texas by Paragon Farms LLC, FDD Scout is from the first crop out of the Grade 2 stakes winning Apollitical Jess mare Apollitical Scout, who also won the Ruidoso Juvenile as a 2-year-old. The multiple-graded winner of more than $380,000, Apollitical Scout is from the immediate family of Rainbow Derby(G1) winner Swingin Daddyo ($718,108) and Rainbow Futurity(G1) winner Swingin Val ($480,175), etc.

Horton Racing's Spanish Steps earned $18,898 for second. John Stinebaugh conditions the $38,000 Heritage Place Sale graduate by leading sire Tres Seis from the A Regal Choice mare Dasha Easy. Gentry Farms bred the bay gelding in Kentucky. Ridden by Francisco Calderon, Spanish Steps has finished second in both his career starts this season to earn $20,498.

Bacsheesh finished a neck off Spanish Steps to earn $10,499 for third. A $40,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale purchase, the son of FDD Dynasty races for owners William Smith and Ky Luddington. M. Heath Taylor conditions the gelding out of grade 2-placed Itea by Corona Cartel. He is a half-brother to Oklahoma Futurity(G2) runner-up Pepper Ryan. Champion James Flores had the riding call. Smith is also the breeder.

Ironey, Cell Bounce, Mi Bella Valentine, Woman In Gold and Yard House completed the field. Eagle Rainbow To Roses was a late scratch at the gate. Eagle Tempting Dash was also scratched.
