OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–APRIL 18, 2026–Surprise Temptation surged to a dramatic nose victory Saturday night in the Grade 2 $58,000 Bob Moore Memorial Stakes at Remington Park, capturing the 300-yard dash for 3-year-olds and up in 15.077 seconds over a fast track.
The 3-year-old sorrel gelding earned $29,100 for the win, narrowly defeating Curls Magic Wagon by a neck, with Cardiac Cowboy another three-quarters of a length back in third. The official margins were neck, ¾, ¾.
Bred in Utah by McColee Land & Livestock LLC, Surprise Temptation is by champion Tempting Dash out of Vf Red Surprise, by First Prize Stanley. He races for LA Racing Stables LLC, is trained by Leonardo Alcala, and was ridden by Juan Pulido.
Breaking sharply from the inside post, Surprise Temptation dueled throughout and proved resolute late, getting the decision in a tight photo finish.
A $100,000 purchase at the 2024 Heritage Place Yearling Sale, Surprise Temptation rewarded his connections with a graded stakes triumph. The 3-year-old has won three of eight career starts and banked $113,934.
Grade 1-placed Curls Magic Wagon, a 4-year-old colt by Pyc Paint Your Wagon out of Eye A Spit Curl Girl (by Spit Curl Jess), finished second for owner-breeder Martin Stacy, trainer John Stinebaugh, and jockey Francisco Calderon. Runner-up in the Texas Classic Futurity(G1) at 2, the brown colt has banked $391,283.
Third-place finisher Cardiac Cowboy, a 5-year-old gelding by leading sire Flying Cowboy 123 out of Southard Cartel (by Carters Cartel), is owned by Tom and Lou Ann Smith and Amber Olmstead, trained by Jason Olmstead, and ridden by Armando Alvidrez. He was previously an RNA at $30,000 at the 2022 Heritage Place Fall Mixed Sale. Winner of the Mighty Deck Three Stakes(G3) in his previous start, Cardiac Cowboy has earned $418,711 off 11 wins.
The complete order of finish was Surprise Temptation, Curls Magic Wagon, Cardiac Cowboy, Ima Fancy Eye Opener, Designated Eagle, Liberty for Jess, Jo Nita Foose Around, and Smyly.
In a race decided by inches, Surprise Temptation delivered a determined performance to secure one of Remington Park’s marquee sprint stakes.
