Cadillac Ease HW Ends Sapeca Dynasty HWS’s Undefeated Streak to Capture Brazil’s III Derby

SAO PAULO, BRAZIL—OCTOBER 14, 2025One of the most accomplished active Quarter Horses at the Jockey Club de Sorocaba, Cadillac Ease HW turned in a commanding performance to defeat five rivals in the III Derby, which carried a purse of R$135,000 (US$24,700) and was contested over 440 yards (402 meters) on Saturday.

The post-time favorite was Sapeca Dynasty HWS (Corona For Me–Royal Wild Dynasty, by FDD Dynasty), the only mare in the field. Unbeaten in three prior starts at South America’s premier Quarter Horse racetrack, she entered the gate as the one to beat.

Under jockey David Oliveira, Cadillac Ease HW broke sharply from the gates to take immediate command. Sapeca Dynasty HWS launched an early bid from the adjacent post but was unable to reel in the leader. The gap only widened as the pair drew away from the rest of the field.

“Anything can happen in a final, but today he was simply in better shape than the others,” said jockey David Oliveira.

“I want to thank the entire team that works so hard for this horse, who’s been racing for three seasons now. And also Foguinho, the stable’s first-call rider, who was unable to ride him today.”

The victory also marked the successful return of trainer Valdemir Barbosa Chiquinho to the management of horses owned by Haras Weisheimer, breeder and owner of the III Derby winner. Chiquinho previously teamed up with this same operation to campaign Over The Moon (Panther Mountain–First Regards, by First Place Dash), still the 440-yard track record holder at Sorocaba with a 20.932 clocking set in 2018.

Sapeca Dynasty HWS, representing Haras Simon, saw her unbeaten streak end but held on for seconxd. She was crowned “Queen of Speed” earlier this season and had dominated her division.

Eletron Cartel MRL, representing Haras Portofino, finished third, followed by Paradise Reason WA, Drako Fantastic HLA, and Frankfurt Verde.

With career earnings of R$420,592 (US$76,950), Cadillac Ease HW has finished first or second in 14 of 18 starts, earning multiple stakes wins and placings.

Cadillac Ease HW is sired by Fantastic Corona Jr (Corona Cartel–Special Queen SA, by Strawfly Special) and was bred by Gianni Franco Samaja. The III Derby, hosted at the Jockey Club de Sorocaba, also honors the club’s president Jonatas Dantas, who highlighted the positive momentum at the track.

“We keep improving with every race meeting. We made a major investment to rebuild and reopen the new track at the ABQM Potro do Futuro, with a purse of R$1 million. I always say: the real president here is the horse. I’m very happy for everyone’s victory. If anything needs to be fixed, we’ll fix it — that’s the work of our entire board,” said Dantas.
