Olmstead Sweeps Top Three Spots In Valley Junction Futurity-G3 with Uncle Redheads Winning

ALTOONA, IA–SEPTEMBER 26, 2025–Trainer Jason Olmstead swept the top three spots in the $303,500 Valley Junction Futurity-G3 at Prairie Meadows on Friday night, as Uncle Redheads scored a 5-1 upset victory over stablemates Atsi Monday and Ur Favorite Tio.

Breaking first under jockey Armando Alvidrez, Uncle Redheads was quickest into stride and held the advantage throughout the 350 yards, finishing strong to stop the timer in 17.745 seconds for a 95 speed index. The slight upset returned $12.00 to win.

The sorrel gelding banked $136,576 for owners Cavenaugh Quarter Horses, LLC, boosting his career total to $164,281. He has now lit the board in six of seven starts and reeled off four consecutive wins.

Bred in Oklahoma by Charles and Elizabeth Horton, Uncle Redheads is by the leading second-year-sire of Quarter Horses, Uncle D. He is out of Redheads Run Hotter, by One Sweet Jess.

Atsi Monday, with Ramiro Garcia up, broke well from her outside post and kept pressure on her stablemate the entire way. She closed late but came up a half-length short at the wire, finishing a determined second.

The daughter of Cyber Monday is out of Atsi Hero, by Valiant Hero, and is bred and owned in Oklahoma by Brenda Reiswig. The sorrel filly now has two wins and three additional placings in six starts, with $73,336 earned.

Ur Favorite Tio, the heavy post-time favorite, lost his chance at the start after breaking a step slow. Jockey Gonzalo Valles Jr. urged him into contention, and he rallied in late to secure third, just a head behind Atsi Monday. T

he gelding, bred in California by Shaun Hubbard, is also by Uncle D and out of Fernweh, by Favorite Cartel. Purchased for $31,000 at the 2024 Ruidoso Yearling Sale, he is owned by Tom Maher and trained by Olmstead.

Ur Favorite Tio has win in the MQHRA Stallion Auction Futurity and a fourth-place effort in the Northlands Futurity and now has $65,695 from eight starts.

The remaining order of finish was Post0stime Favorite, Rmv Wingman, Head Patron, Eagle Empire, Dynastys Ivory, Runaway One Sweet Hero, and Party Tyme Favorite.
