ROCK SPRINGS, WY—AUGUST 22, 2025—A field of 2-year-old prospects took center stage Saturday afternoon at Sweetwater Downs, where 11 trials were contested at 350 yards to determine the finalists for the $225,000-est. Sweetwater Downs Futurity (G2).
The ten fastest qualifiers will return for the championship final on Saturday, September 6, 2025, and it was Wyoming Downs Futurity winner Deja Dulce who led the way with a sharp performance in the sixth trial.
Breaking sharply and holding off a late charge, Deja Dulce stopped the clock in 17.324, a 99 speed index, and the day's fastest qualifying time. Owned by Daisy Carlson and Joe Goggins, the Dulce Sin Tacha gelding is out of La Deja Blue, a daughter of Carters Cartel.
Bred in Oklahoma by Flag Ranch LLC, Deja Dulce is trained by Jess R. Matt and was guided to victory by jockey Jacob Cardenas. The sorrel gelding dueled gamely down the stretch to prevail by a nose over second-fastest qualifier Fancy Dashing Diva.
It was the fourth, third consecutive, victory in seven starts for the juvenile, who has earned $129,885. He won the Wyoming Downs Futurity on August 10 and was a finalist in the Energy Downs Futurity in June.
Runner-up, Fancy Dashing Diva, posted the second-fastest time of the day at 17.328 in the same heat, just a nose shy of Deja Dulce. Owned and trained by Josh Taylor, the $14,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate is a daughter of four-time world champion sire FDD Dynasty, out of Oh So Fancy Fancy by One Sweet Jess.
Bred in Texas by Craig Lauger, Fancy Dashing Diva was ridden by Juan Pulido and stamped herself as a top contender heading into the September 6 final. This was his best effort in three career starts.
The third-fastest qualifier emerged from the seventh trial, where Fooseylady powered to a wire-to-wire victory in 17.400, a 97 speed index. Bred in Utah by Antonio Tinoco, the filly is by champion Foose and out of Laazteca by Ausual Suspect.
Fooseylady races for Roberto Ortiz, who also trains the filly, and Minor Arana piloted her. The Utah-bred broke sharply and "wouldn't be denied" through the final yards, holding off her rivals with authority. She won the Hadley Giles Futurity in May and banked $32,914 with three wins in four starts.
With Deja Dulce, Fancy Dashing Diva, and Fooseylady leading a competitive list of qualifiers, the stage is set for an exciting renewal of the Sweetwater Downs Futurity on Saturday, September 6.
