Gachala Scores Gate-to-Wire Victory in $27,100 Oneida County QH Futurity

MALAD CITY, ID—AUGUST 10, 2025—Gachala broke sharply and never looked back, leading from start to finish to capture Sunday’s $27,100 Oneida County Quarter Horse Futurity at the Oneida County Fair.

Covering the 300 yards in 15.574 seconds over a fast track, the gray filly earned a 93 speed index despite a 5 mph crosswind, securing the $10,840 winner’s share for owners Ricardo P. Castillo and Rainee Browning.

A 2-year-old daughter of Mental Error out of the First Moonflash mare Flash Em the Jewels, Gachala was bred in Texas by Bobby & Catherine Simmons and purchased for $14,700 at the 2024 Heritage Place Yearling Sale.

Trained by Ricardo Castillo, Sr. and ridden by Oscar Villa, she controlled the race from the break, holding on gamely by a neck over her stablemate One Dulce Eagle. The two-time winner from four starts has earned $13,712.

One Dulce Eagle closed strongly to finish second, earning $6,504. The sorrel filly, bred in Texas by Pine Ridge Farm LLC, is by leading first-crop sire Dulce Sin Tacha out of Dashing Vickie, by One Dashing Eagle. She was a $15,000 purchase at the 2024 Heritage Place Yearling Sale and was ridden by Angel Armenta for trainer Castillo, Sr. She has earned $11,529 in four starts this season.

Cm Heart of an Eagle rallied for third to pick up $4,065. The brown colt, bred in Oklahoma by Lindsay German McGaha, is by Eagles Fly Higher out of Shes in My Heart, by FDD Dynasty, and sold for $17,000 at the 2024 Heritage Place Yearling Sale. Ricardo Sid had the riding assignment for trainer Castillo, Sr.

Gachala paid $9.80 to win, $3.20 to place, and $3.00 to show. One Dulce Eagle returned $7.80 to place and $4.60 to show, while Cm Heart of an Eagle paid $4.20 to show.

Thought It Deluxe, Nellie Melba, Em Nighthawk, Redmann, and Jettastics Diamond completed the field.
