MALAD CITY, ID–AUGUST 9, 2025–Kcross Poolboy delivered the biggest performance of his career on Saturday, capturing the $5,400 Overnight Derby (not black type) at the Oneida County Fair.

Jockey Eric Ayala guided the Wyoming-bred gelding to victory in 15.509 seconds, earning a 95 speed index for the 300-yard dash. The son of Rgr Jungle Jock broke sharply and held off a determined late run from Idaho Jess to win by a neck, returning $12.00 to win on a $2 wager.

The victory was worth $3,240 to owner Krystal Butterfield, boosting Kcross Poolboy’s lifetime earnings to $10,260 and improving his record to 2 wins and 2 seconds from 10 starts. Trained by Butterfield, he was bred in Wyoming by Wagonhammer Ranch and is out of the Coronas Velvet mare Vvr Poolhall Girl.

Idaho Jess, the runner-up, delivered a steady effort after brushing at the start. The sorrel gelding is owned by Dorian Montero and trained by Ramiro Fregoso. Ridden by Never Marin, he stopped the clock in 15.537 seconds with a 94 speed index. He is by Jess Got Easier and out of Jesse Jayne, by Jesse James Jr., and was bred in Idaho by Larry Chapple.

Famous Prizes, sent off as the odds-on favorite, finished half a length behind the runner-up in third. The bay gelding is campaigned by his trainer Ricardo Castillo and Rainee Browning and ridden by Jose Espinoza. The son of One Famous Eagle is out of Coronas Fast Prize, by Corona Cartel, and was bred in Texas by Weetona Stanley. He was a $40,000 repurchase at the 2023 Ruidoso Yearling Sale.

Strawfly Jimmy, trained by Javier Duarte and ridden by Jesus Flores, completed the order of finish after a troubled start.
