Ur Favorite Tio Upsets Field in $57,156 MQHRA Stallion Auction Futurity at Canterbury Park

SHAKOPEE, MN–JULY 10, 2025–Ur Favorite Tio, a 2-year-old sorrel gelding by Uncle D out of Ruidoso Futurity(G1) winner Fernweh by Favorite Cartel, turned in a sharp effort to win the $57,156 MQHRA Stallion Auction Futurity at Canterbury Park.

With no wind and a fast track, Ur Favorite Tio stopped the clock in 17.903 seconds for 350 yards, earning a speed index of 90 and holding on by a neck for the victory.

Owned by Tom Maher, bred by Shaun Hubbard in California, and trained by Jason Olmstead, Ur Favorite Tio was ridden to the win by jockey Gonzalo Valles Jr. to his first victory in four career starts.

 The gelding was a $31,000 purchase from the 2024 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale. He earned $26,246 for the win, boosting his bankroll  to $28,196 with an impressive performance over a solid field.

Runner-up Holliewood, a sorrel filly by champion sire Hes Relentless out of Apollitical Mogul by Apollitical Jess, closed strongly to finish just a neck back.

The fastest trial qualifier is owned by Tom Maher and Bill Maher, bred by Tom Maher in Oklahoma, and also trained by Jason Olmstead. Leading Canterbury Quarter Horse rider Armando Alvidrez had the call, guiding Holliewood to a $9,915 payday. The second loss in four starts for the filly, she has banked $34,395.

Holliewood was an RNA for $31,000 at the 2024 Heritage Place Yearling Sale.

Finishing third was Relentless Cachet, a brown filly by Hes Relentless out of Jessies Cache by One Sweet Jess. Bred in Texas by Tom Maher, she races for owner Ray M. Bolinger Jr., is conditioned by Jason Olmstead and was ridden by Aram Martinez.

Relentless Cachet overcame a brushed start to close well for third, earning $5,832. She is winless in three starts.

Pari-mutuel payoffs saw Ur Favorite Tio return $40.40 to win, $10.00 to place and $4.40 to show. Holliewood paid $2.20 to place and show, and Relentless Cachet paid $7.40 to show.

Hezz All That, Kyndling, McGreggor, Shes Got This, Babygotgoodatgoodbye and Little Bit Restless completed the field in fourth through ninth, respectively. One entrant, Streak N Mi Corazon, was a stakes scratch.
