SHAKOPEE, MN–JUNE 11, 2025–Holy Dynasty surged in the final strides to win the $29,000 North Star State Futurity on Wednesday night at Canterbury Park.
The 300-yard dash for Minnesota-bred 2-year-old Quarter Horses saw the sorrel gelding take control late to secure the victory by three-quarters of a length in a final time of 16.020 seconds on a fast track.
Bred and owned by Daniel Kjorsvik, Holy Dynasty is a son of four-time world champion sire FDD Dynasty out of the Thoroughbred mare Holy White Socks, by Polished Brass.
The gate crew had their hands full loading Holy Dynasty into the starting gate before the 300-yard North Star State Futurity but once loaded, the 2-year-old Minnesota bred did not disappoint his owner and breeder Dan Kjorsvik.
Jockey Alfredo Triana, Jr. guided Holy Dynasty to a 3/4 length win in the $29,000 race, passing favorite Sophey late and holding off a charge from Del Cartel, trained by Hobbs. Holy Dynasty, trained by Patrick Swan, paid $13.40 to win.

"The gate crew did a great job," Kjorsvik said. "These horses are two-year-olds but a lot of them are pretty green. I can’t thank the gate crew enough for their professionalism. He’s got a big stride and I think as he gets older, he’s going to keep developing."
Holy Dynasty picked up his first win and two starts, earning $13,594 for the effort.
Del Cartel finished second after a slow start from the outside post. The chestnut gelding, by multiple stakes sire Five Bar Cartel out of Make Me a Mojito, was bred and owned by Cesar Albino Martinez.
Trained by Haley Hobbs and ridden by Fernando Fonseca-Soto, Del Cartel rallied gamely for second. He entered the race off a $20,000 Maiden Claiming victory at Remington Park in his last start May 28. He has earned $15,150.
The gray filly Sophey, sent off as the heavy 0.80 favorite, broke sharply and led early under Armando Alvidrez but was out finished in the closing yards to take third. The daughter of FDD Dynasty out of Sweet Carol Line by Moonin The Eagle was bred and is owned by Lunderborg LLC and trained by Jason Olmstead. She earned $3,021.
Holy Dynasty paid $13.40 to win, while the $0.50 trifecta of 5-8-1 returned $15.20.
Completing the order of finish were Sale Barn Cafe, Jjmoder Boi, Spicy Cartel, Bottumz Up, and This Eagle Can Rock,
The race went off at 9:04 p.m. under cloudy skies, with a 5 mph tailwind and a temperature of 70 degrees. The event drew strong wagering interest, with the total handle exceeding $1.2 million. Racing at Canterbury Park resumes Saturday at 5 p.m. (CDT).
