HOUSTON, TX –JUNE 7, 2025 –In a thrilling finish under a scorching Texas sun, Luminozity delivered a determined late rally to win the $15,014 Colors Of Houston Juvenile at Sam Houston Race Park Saturday.

The 300-yard sprint for two-year-olds who competed in the recent Colors Of Houston Futurity trials featured a tightly matched field, but it was Luminozity who found his best stride in the closing yards to secure the victory.

Piloted by jockey Luis Vivanco, Luminozity broke in mid-pack from post position six and steadily advanced under urging before surging to the front in the final jumps. The sorrel colt edged past the favored Hawk Tuah to prevail by a head in a time of 16.039 seconds, running into a modest headwind.

Trained by Roberto Madrigal and owned by J and J Stone Co., Inc., Luminozity earned $6,096 for the win, increasing his career bankroll to that amount in what was his maiden-breaking performance.

Bred in Oklahoma by Kassie Hohenstein, Luminozity is by the Quarter Horse stakes sire The Marfa Lights out of the FDD Dynasty mare Daylight Dynasty. His strong finish over a competitive group suggests he may be one to watch in the remaining Texas juvenile campaign.

Second-place honors went to Hawk Tuah, who went off as the heavy favorite at odds of 0.90-1. The Hawkeye filly, ridden by Jose Gonzales-Corral, broke on top and dueled through the early stages before being narrowly outfinished. She is trained by Ricardo Aguirre for owner-breeder Rene Rios and collected $2,746 for her runner-up effort. She is out of Kiowas Success by Cartel Success.

Finishing third was Dashing Chilita, who broke alertly under Victor Urieta Jr. and battled early before hanging late to finish a neck behind Hawk Tuah. Trained by Alex Villarreal and owned by Victor R. Villarreal, Dashing Chilita earned $1,764 for her effort. The daughter of leading second-crop sire Chilitos is out of Success Appeal by Cartel Success. Juan Carlos Parez is the breeder.

Rounding out the field were Wl Sexy Superhero in fourth, The Three Sisters in fifth, Moscato Kiss in sixth, Vegas Wagon in seventh, and Memories of Texas Two in eighth. The filly La Salsa Mr was scratched by the stewards prior to post time.

The race was contested over a fast track with a 5 mph headwind and went off cleanly at 4:26 p.m. The wagering public responded to the competitive nature of the field, with $16,295 wagered in the Win-Place-Show pool. The $1 exacta (7-5) returned $22.40, while the 50-cent trifecta (7-5-4) paid $71.90. The 10-cent superfecta (7-5-4-1) returned $62.95.

With a hard-fought victory now under his belt, Luminozity appears poised to make further strides in the regional stakes ranks for juveniles this summer.
