SAN ANTONIO, TX—JULY 24, 2026—Strong buyer demand carried the opening session of the 2026 Texas Quarter Horse Association Yearling Sale to impressive gains Friday, as buyers pushed gross sales, average price, and median price sharply higher over last year's opening day despite a smaller catalog.

A total of 131 Accredited Texas-Bred yearlings sold from 193 offered, producing $2,758,800 in gross sales, a 22.5% increase over the opening session in 2025. The average price climbed to $21,060, up 21.6%, while the median price jumped an impressive 67.6% to $15,500. The sale also saw one more horse sold than a year ago, with 131 sold compared to 130 in 2025, even though 12 fewer yearlings were offered.

"We're extremely pleased with the results from the opening session of the TQHA Yearling Sale. Not only did we see strong participation from many of our longtime buyers, but we were also encouraged to welcome several new buyers to the sale. That combination speaks to the continued confidence in the quality of Texas-bred Quarter Horses and the strength of this marketplace," TQHA Executive Director Scott Sherwood said Friday evening. "We're especially excited to see the sale post increases over the first session of last year's sale, which is a very positive sign for our breeders and consignors. We appreciate everyone who helped make Friday a success and look forward to carrying that momentum into Day 2 on Saturday with another outstanding group of yearlings."

Topping Friday's session was Hip No. 1, Tres Ole, a filly by legendary sire Tres Seis out of Volcom Bay, by Volcom. Consigned by Robicheaux Ranch Inc., Agent for Bennie & Terri Jeter, she was purchased by Scott & Jaime Bryant for $110,000.

The second-highest seller was Hip No. 166, Night Cowboy, a colt by leading sire Flying Cowboy 123 out of Syzygy, by Tres Seis. Consigned by AA Farms LLC, the colt brought $90,000 from Joshua Owens.

Rounding out the day's top three was Hip No. 132, Carpo, a colt by leading sire Apollitical Jess out of Mesa Moonlight, by FDD Dynasty. Consigned by Haddad Ranch, he sold for $70,000 to Carpo Partnership.

Jaime Cardenas led all buyers during the opening session, purchasing three yearlings for $135,000. Rey Munoz ranked second with two purchases totaling $113,000, while Scott & Jaime Bryant rounded out the top three buyers after acquiring the sale-topping filly for $110,000.

Among consignors, Haddad Ranch enjoyed a standout day, leading the sale with 12 yearlings sold for $412,500. Robicheaux Ranch Inc., Agent ranked second after selling nine head for $288,500, while Granada Farms, Agent completed the top three with 14 yearlings bringing $228,200.

The annual TQHA Yearling Sale concludes Saturday at Exposition Hall at The Freeman in San Antonio. Selling begins at 10:00 a.m., with Hip Nos. 210 through 420 are scheduled to pass through the ring.

Buyers will again compete for Accredited Texas-Bred yearlings eligible for the 2027 TQHA Sale Futurity (RG1), one of the richest restricted futurities in the nation.
