Conducted by legendary Brazilian auctioneer Nilson Genovesi and organized by MBA Leiloeira, the sale saw the filly Make Sis top the auction, selling for R$ 972,000 (US$ 195,000). With American bloodlines on both sides, she is by Granite Lake (First Down Dash x Clever Miss, by Kaskaskia), the most accomplished sire of all time in Brazil.

Make Sis’ dam is the outstanding producer Jess Because (Mr Jess Perry x Ally Bye Bye, by Chicks Beduino), who has produced multiple stakes winners, including Make Me (by Coronado Cartel), winner of the GP Torneio Início and GP Megarace, and voted Sorocaba’s top female runner in 2024.

Both the sire line and dam line of Make Sis give her credentials not only to become a top racehorse, but also to have tremendous broodmare potential, proven by her pedigree. For that reason, she commanded strong value.

The second-highest seller of the Haras Prata Special 50th Anniversary Sale was the colt Intrepid One, regarded as one of the best-looking individuals in the offering. He sold for R$ 828,000 (US$ 166,000).

His sire, Fantastic Corona Jr (by Corona Cartel), is one of the most influential stallions in the country. His dam, White Or Wrong (by Mr Eye Opener), is certainly a Hall of Fame Quarter Horse broodmare, having produced countless stakes winners as a direct producer or granddam, with offspring that have gone on to become notable sires and broodmares.

Completing the top three highest sellers of the evening, Reina Sofia sold for R$ 792,000 (US$ 159,000). The filly carries the blood of Corona For Me, another distinguished son of Corona Cartel who has become an established sire in South America.

Reina Sofia’s dam, Granita (by Granite Lake), was crowned Queen of Speed in 2018 at Jockey Club de Sorocaba and is a descendant of the aforementioned legendary White Or Wrong. Granita is already a producer of stakes winners in several South American countries.

The top three purchases of the Haras Prata Special 50th Anniversary Sale were all made by owner Stud Africano, headed by Polo Ortiz, a representative from Chile who campaigns horses in Sorocaba. In fact, during last Saturday’s races at the São Paulo racecourse, four of his runners were winners, reflecting previous investments that continue to expand.

In total, Stud Africano purchased four lots from Érico Braga’s 2026 sale, representing an investment of R$ 2,700,000 (US$ 540,000). They will be trained by Flavio Melo, in a stable featuring jockeys Raynan and Vicente Barros, managed by Thiago Foguinho, with veterinary supervision by Dr. Bruno Oliveira.

Among the 50 hips that made up the sale were offspring by nine different sires. The majority were by Red Hawk Cartel (Favorite Cartel x Red Hawk Chick, by Hawkinson), a stallion whose first crop is debuting on Brazilian racetracks this season and has already sired champions such as Coronita In Red (winner of the GP Torneio Início at Sorocaba) and Fishers Hawk FS (winner of the GP Fronteira Horse Show).

In total, the 23 offspring by the California-born stallion grossed R$ 4,611,600 (US$ 920,000). Below are the sales totals for each sire: CLICK HERE TO ENLARGE IMAGE.

“I have lived 50 years for the Quarter Horse. This 50th anniversary of Haras Prata is a very important milestone for us. During all this time, the horse has brought me great friendships, which greatly helped our breeding program and brought us many joys and victories. It has been very important for the unity and togetherness of our family,” said Érico Braga, who concluded by thanking everyone who purchased at his special 50th anniversary sale.

Looking toward the future, Haras Prata introduced its first Brazilian-born stallion, the phenomenon Fantastic Feature.

Described by Érico Braga himself as the best horse he has ever bred, Fantastic Feature won 17 races at Jockey Club de Sorocaba, where he captured the Champion of Champions of Brazil twice, in addition to being a two-time King of Speed.

The current record holder at 330 yards and 400 yards, Fantastic Feature retired from racing to begin his breeding career with high expectations. He is by Fantastic Corona Jr out of Featuringmissjess (by Mr Jess Perry).
