RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM–MARCH 27, 2026–Dates and entry deadlines have been set for the 2026 Ruidoso Yearling Sales, with consignment forms available for both the New Mexico-Bred Yearling Sale and the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale.
New Mexico-Bred Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred Yearling Sale Set for August 15 - Consignment Deadline Is May 1
The annual New Mexico-Bred Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred Yearling Sale is set for Saturday, August 15, at the Ruidoso Downs Horse Sale Pavilion, continuing a long-standing tradition that has shown steady growth in recent years.
In a coordinated effort to support the event, The Downs at Albuquerque will not conduct a live racing card that day, allowing horsemen the opportunity to attend the sale.
“We appreciate the partnership with our friends at The Downs at Albuquerque in helping horsemen focus on this important event,” said Ruidoso Downs Sales Director Walt Wiggins. “The New Mexico-bred sale continues to show strong growth in both participation and overall sales.”
That growth was evident in 2025, when the sale featured 235 head and produced a record $6.26 million in gross sales, with an average price of $32,990. Thirteen yearlings reached over the six-figure territory, underscoring the continued demand for New Mexico-bred stock.
The high seller at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Yearling Sale was Sea Pearl, who brought $425,000. She is a daughter of Eye Am King and out of Ms Riptide by Ocean Runaway. She was consigned by MJ Farms and purchased by Prestige Stables.
The New Mexico-bred sale remains a cornerstone of the state’s breeding program. It is widely recognized as the nation’s leading state-bred marketplace, offering accredited yearlings eligible for lucrative regional programs. The entry deadline for the 2026 sale is May 1.

Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale Set For September 4-5 – Consignment Deadline Is May 15
That same upward trajectory carries into the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, scheduled for September 4–5 at the Ruidoso Downs Sale Pavilion. Regarded as one of the premier Quarter Horse sales in the industry, the Select Sale continues to attract top-tier bloodstock, with all yearlings eligible for the 2027 Ruidoso Triple Crown Futurities.
Like last year, the two-day event will take place on Friday and Saturday, leading into Labor Day weekend, just ahead of the All American Futurity, Derby, and Oaks, which will be contested on Labor Day, September 7, 2026, at The Downs at Albuquerque.
Last year’s Select Sale delivered another standout performance, generating $26,801,500 in gross sales and averaging $70,600 on 369 head sold. A total of 81 yearlings brought $100,000 or more, highlighted by the $735,000 sale of Hip #318 – Criminal Justice.
The colt is by leading sire Favorite Cartel, and out of Remember Me Rose, the all-time leading dam by earnings in American Quarter Horse racing. Consigned by Burns Ranch, he was purchased by Bobby D. Cox.
The entry deadline for the 2026 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale is May 15.
