CYPRESS, CA–OCTOBER 4, 2025–Five six-figure yearlings, headed by a $190,000 Favorite Cartel filly, led the Los Alamitos Equine Sale's Day 1 opener on Saturday in Cypress, California.

The sale company reported that 80 of the 96 head offered on day 1 sold for gross receipts of $2,559,200, an average of $31,990, and a median of $19,250.

The average for 75 yearlings sold in the opener was $32,823, up over the 57 yearlings sold on day 1 in 2024 for a $31,007 average. Broodmares sold today averaged $17,250.

Tom Lipar's Paragon Farms paid $190,000 for Saturday's sale-topper, Hip 70 Cold Shoulder from the consignment of Burns Ranch. By leading sire Favorite Cartel, the sorrel filly is out of stakes winner Just Walk By, by Walk Thru Fire.

A sister to the 2025 Ed Burke Million Futurity(G1) runner-up Ultimate Battle, this is the family of Grade 1 winners Rock You, Little Talks, etc.

Tungsten Racing Partnership paid $160,000 for Saturday's second high-seller, Hip #82 Leaving London, a sister to multiple Grade 1 winner London Toby. The Favorite Cartel filly, consigned by Edward C. Alred, is out of London Laura by Walk Thru Fire.

Hip 97 Jurupa, a Favorite Cartel sister to graded stakes winners Circle City and Nomadic, Saturday's co-third high-seller, was purchased for $140,000 by Valeriano Racing Stables, LLC.

Edward C. Allred also consigned the gray filly out of the Corona Cartel mare Moonlight Corona. This is the family of champions: Your First Moon, Moonish, Moonin The Eagle, etc.

Hip 8 Aj Crown, a colt by leading sire Apollitical Jess from the Grade 1 winning and champion producing Corona Cartel mare Corona Crystal, was the day 1 third co-high-seller. Daniel Miranda paid $140,000 for the half-brother to champion Walk Thru Crystal. Rancho El Cabestro, Inc. was the consignor.

Tom Lipar/Paragon Farms was the leading buyer on day 1 with two purchases for $237,000. Alex Castaneda paid $176,700 for eight head and Valeriano Racing Stables, LLC purchased two head for $174,000.

Burns Ranch was the leading consignor and/or agent on day 1 with 24 yearlings grossing $1,020,500. Edward C. Allred sold 16 for $687,500, and Rancho El Cabresto, Inc. had for $283,000.

Apollitical Jess was the leading sire of yearlings on day 1 (by average, two or more sold) with two for $125,000. Favorite Cartel averaged $83,500 for 14 head, and Apollitical Blood sold two for a $30,000 average. Golden Boi was the leading first sale crop-sire on day 1 (by average, two or more sold) with 10 for $20,100.
