Hobbs, NM–OCTOBER 29, 2025—Saturday’s card at Albuquerque Downs promises top-level New Mexico-bred talent as forty-five juveniles line up across five trials, each going 350 yards in hopes of securing one of ten coveted spots in the (RG2) New Mexico Classic Futurity Finals on November 23. The estimated purse for the finale stands at an impressive $350,000, setting the stage for a thrilling day of competition.
Leading the charge in race seven is Luxurie, the 3-2 morning line favorite. The accomplished gelding already boasts a stellar résumé, highlighted by a victory in the RG2 $346,000 Mountain Top Futurity. A winner of three races with a fifth-place effort in the $1 million (G2) New Mexico Bred State Fair Quarter Horse Futurity, Luxurie has banked $201,444 so far in his young career.
Owned by Triple R Racing Stables, LLC, Wallace Lynn Landrum, Ted Rushing, and Rancho El 48, LLC, Luxurie was a $300,000 purchase at the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale. Bred in New Mexico by MJ Farms, the son of Big Daddy Cartel out of Astica (by Jesse James Jr.) will race from post two under trainer James J. Gonzales III, with Christian Cardenas retaining the mount.
In the ninth race, Hez Rio Trouble headlines as the 8-5 morning line favorite. The consistent gelding has twice placed third in major stakes company—once in the Mountain Top New Mexico Bred Juvenile Stakes and again in the $1 million (G2) New Mexico State Fair Quarter Horse Futurity—amassing $151,760 in career earnings.
Owned by Robert Driggers and Ben Ivey, Hez Rio Trouble is a son of Jet Black Patriot out of Riverside Babe (by First Moonflash), bred in New Mexico by Ivey Cattle Co. He is trained by Wesley T. Giles and will break from post five with Noe Garcia Jr. back in the irons.
With multiple graded stakes winners among the entrants, Saturday’s trials promise a showcase of elite speed and talent. Each contender will be racing not only against rivals but also against the clock, with every fraction of a second crucial in determining which ten will advance to the lucrative New Mexico Classic Futurity Finals next month.
