EVANSTON, WY–JULY 9, 2025–Friday afternoon’s race card at Wyoming Downs showcases the best Wyoming-bred juvenile talent, with ten highly anticipated trial heats for the Ron Cook Wyoming Bred Futurity Trials. Ninety-three promising two-year-olds will compete across ten 330-yard heats, all vying for a top-ten fastest time and a coveted berth in the $25,000-added Ron Cook Wyoming Bred Futurity Final, slated for July 27, 2025.
All eyes will be on R Dash Of Fire, the standout of the meet, who headlines the tenth and final trial. The Conn Creek–sired gelding stamped himself as a top contender after winning the Wyoming Bred Futurity on June 21. Owned by Wagonhammer Cattle, LLC, the bay has a near-perfect record from three career starts, with two wins and a narrow second, earning $117,480 to date.
Trained by Jorge Garfias, R Dash Of Fire is out of Tribal Fire, a daughter of FDD Dynasty, and will break from turquoise post position nine under regular pilot Valente Vorrath. As the final trial of the day, expectations are high for the gelding to post one of the fastest times and secure a strong draw for the finals.
Another top-tier contender to watch is Flying Rocco, who will contest race five. The son of Flying Cowboy 123 came up just a head short to R Dash of Fire in last month’s futurity, and will be looking to flip the script in the trials. Owned by J. P. Sample and trained by Kylie Valenzuela, Flying Rocco has mirrored his rival’s consistency with two wins and a close second from three starts, and has earned $41,900.
The gelding will be piloted by Jesus Valenzuela from blue post number three. If he returns to his best form, he could be among the trial leaders.
Kicking off the afternoon action in race one is In the Vee, a consistent and well-seasoned runner with four career starts already under his belt. The son of Junior June Bug, out of Brindis Secret, finished just behind R Dash of Fire and Flying Rocco in the June futurity, beaten less than a length in third.
Owned by Eddie Jensen and trained by Jess R. Matt, In the Vee has compiled a record of 2-1-1 and banked $55,035. Breaking from yellow post position under jockey Jacob Cardenas, he’ll aim to set the tone for the day with a fast clocking that could secure a finals return.
With nearly one hundred runners set to line up in Friday’s trials, speed and precision will be the name of the game.
Regardless of finish position, the ten fastest qualifiers will return to contest the Ron Cook Wyoming Bred Futurity Final over the same 330-yard distance on Sunday, July 27.
