AURORA, CO–JULY 17, 2026–Saturday afternoon at Arapahoe Park will feature a seven-race card with a first post of 1:00 p.m., highlighted by the $30,855 Cox Ranch Distaff Challenge Stakes. A talented field of seven fillies and mares will line up in race six at approximately 3:30 p.m. to sprint 400 yards. The winner will earn a coveted berth in the AQHA Distaff Challenge Championship on October 17 at Albuquerque Downs during AQHA Challenge Championship Day.

Sheza Fearless Eagle has been installed as the 6-5 morning-line favorite after consistently facing top-level competition throughout her career. The four-year-old mare enters the race fresh off a game third-place finish in the Grade 1 Juno Request Stakes at Remington Park on May 30, where she was beaten by only a neck. She also sharpened for Saturday's assignment with a bullet workout on June 28, covering 220 yards in :12.38, the fastest of four workers that morning.

Her impressive résumé includes victories in the Lucile Rowe Derby and the Mile High Derby, along with a qualification for the Grade 1 All American Oaks. She has won eight races, earning $276,343 for owner and breeder Jill Cook.

The Colorado-bred daughter of One Fabulous Eagle is out of the Tres Seis mare Ima Fearless Fire. Fernando Manriquez trains the accomplished mare, who will break from post two with Edwin G. Escobedo aboard.

Sunshining has been listed as the 3-1 second choice and will look to break through for her first victory of the season. The talented three-year-old filly qualified for the Grade 2 Heritage Place Oaks, where she encountered trouble and was forced to change lanes midway through the 400-yard final. During her juvenile campaign, she finished third in the Mile High Futurity and has recorded four top three finishes in six career starts.

Owned by Celenes Racing, LLC, Sunshining was purchased for $38,000 at the Los Alamitos Yearling Sale. The California-bred daughter of Mpshinning is out of the Favorite Cartel mare Little Talks and was bred by Steve D. Burns, DVM. Chris Candarilla trains the filly, who will leave from post three with Cristian Aguirre-Erives aboard.

With a berth in the AQHA Distaff Challenge Championship on the line, Saturday's Cox Ranch Distaff Challenge Stakes brings together a quality field of accomplished fillies and mares. From proven graded-stakes performers to emerging talent seeking a breakthrough victory, the stage is set for an exciting 400-yard showdown at Arapahoe Park as the road to Albuquerque continues.
