Looking for his fourt consecutive win, Holmybeeranwatchthis will head the $44,880 Adequan California Derby Challenge on Sunday night at Los Alamitos.

LOS ALAMITOS, CA–MAY 16, 2025–Reliance Ranches' Holmybeeranwatchthis will look to improve his record to a perfect four for four in 2025 after being supplemented to run in the $44,880 Adequan California Derby Challenge on Sunday night at Los Alamitos.

Nine sophomores will be in action in this 400-yard race with the winner earning a ticket to the Adequan Derby Challenge final to be held in October at The Downs at Albuquerque.

Holmybeeranwatchthis will enter this race after holding off Invasive by a nose to win the James Smith Memorial Handicap at 350 yards. Will he be able to fend off his rivals at the longer distance on Saturday night.

His connections are confident that he will handle the 400 yards fine based on their decision to pay the supplemental fee. Ricardo Ramirez will ride the Coronado Cartel colt out of the Los Alamitos Oaks winner Dreams Divine.

While Holmybeeranwatchthis has done nothing but win this year at Los Alamitos, Tungsten Racing Partnership, Pavon Racing, LLC, Empire Racing LLC and Heyso Howlet’s Invasive has been the runner-up in all three of his starts here this year.

He was flying late in the James Smith and simply ran out of the room, so the extra distance could favor the Favorite Cartel gelding.

The red-hot jockey and trainer combination of Edwin Escobedo and Marc Jungers is another check mark for Invasive, who earlier this year finished second in the Los Alamitos Maiden Stakes. He’ll start from post number one.

Other top names in the Adequan include Kaye Russell,  Apollitical Bet, the winner of the John Deere California Juvenile Challenge last year, and Midnight Mood and VGK Zigfield Follies, both graded derby finalists at Los Alamitos this year.

Prey N Cartel, Steel Blue Cartel, CM Jesse B A Cowboy,  and CM Cowgirls Are Cool completed the field.
