HOUSTON, TX–APRIL 27, 2026– Another strong weekend of live Quarter Horse racing and fan-driven entertainment played out at Sam Houston Race Park. Thursday opened with a nine-race program under clear April skies. Winds picked up at times, but the surface remained fast, giving horsemen a fair track from start to finish.

Friday featured a full set of AQHA Challenge trials, including the Q-Racing Distance Challenge-G3, Adequan Derby Challenge, and John Deere Juvenile Challenge-G3, all of which will have finals held on May 9. Despite steady headwinds, the top runners asserted themselves across all divisions.

The evening wrapped up with live music from Fab 5, keeping fans on the grounds well after the final race and adding to the track’s growing entertainment appeal.

Saturday shifted the spotlight to the grandstand, where the crowd packed the rail for one of the meet’s most anticipated attractions—the Corgi Dog Races.

A total of 88 corgis competed across eight trials in between the live horse races, with Lily, Kaiser, Dottie, Ginger Lee, Cookie, Penny, Toby, and Selkie each winning their respective heats to advance to the finals, held ahead of Race 7.

Breaking from the inside post, Kaiser—the reigning 2025 champion—crossed the finish line first once again, securing his fourth career Corgi Race title for owner Rachel Hunt. The repeat performance underscored both speed and discipline, something Hunt was quick to point out.

Hunt commented after the race, “The secret to winning is having a solid recall. They can be as fast as you want, but if they don’t go to you, you're not going to win.” The victory carried a $500 prize, with this year’s event sponsored by Everything Pets.

Between the AQHA Challenge trial performances on Friday and the packed house for Saturday’s Corgi Dog races, Sam Houston Race Park continues to show a strong balance between serious competition and fan engagement—an approach that keeps both horsemen and spectators coming back.
