HOBBS, NM–DECEMBER 14, 2025– Js Freightrain delivered a sharp front-running performance Sunday afternoon at Zia Park, winning the $100,000 Hobbs America Derby Invitational for 3-year-olds.
Ridden by Bonifacio Quiroz, Js Freightrain broke alertly and took immediate command, maintaining her advantage throughout the 400 yards to score by 1 1/4 lengths. The bay filly completed the distance in 19.058 seconds, earning a 102 speed index over a fast track. The race was ran under cloudy skies with calm conditions.
Trained by Heber Deyta-Melendez for owner Samuel Mendoza, Js Freightrain is by World Champion sire Freighttrain B and out of As And Js, a multiple stakes-winning mare by Apollitical Jess. Foaled in Oklahoma and bred by Leonardo Alcala, the filly earned the $58,200 winner’s share, pushing her lifetime earnings to $208,027 and improving her career record to 12-6-2-1. She entered the race off a runner-up finish in the Purina Feeds Texas Classic Oaks and was also a finalist earlier this year in the Heritage Place Oaks (G2).

The gelding is by Czar Cartel MV and out of the Tempting Dash mare Camelia. Trained by David Gomez-Barraza for owner Francisco C. Hernandez, Pavel holds a career record of 16-7-3-2 with earnings of $397,290. He was coming off a third-place finish in the Namehimastreaker New Mexico Classic Championship and earlier this year finished second in the New Mexico Breeders Stakes (G3). In 2024, Pavel captured the New Mexico Classic Juvenile, New Mexico Breeders Futurity (G3), and the New Mexican Spring Futurity (G2). He was a $6,000 graduate of the Ruidoso New Mexico Bred Yearling Sale.
Eagle Aye finished third under Jose Ortiz. The colt is by two-time World Champion sire One Famous Eagle and out of Miss Aguilar, a graded stakes-placed mare by Tres Seis. Eagle Aye now holds a career record of 14-3-0-7 with earnings of $152,050. He entered the race off a third-place finish in the Las Fiesta Derby and was also third earlier this year in the Ruidoso Derby (G1). Eagle Aye is a $155,000 graduate of the TQHA Yearling Sale.
Sent off at odds of 7-1, Js Freightrain returned $15.80 to win, $7.00 to place, and $4.20 to show. Pavel paid $15.80 and $5.20, while Eagle Aye returned $5.80 to show. The $1 exacta with Js Freightrain over Pavel paid $109.60, the 50-cent trifecta returned $313.95, and the 10-cent superfecta paid $672.94.
Woody Rocks, Toastin Heros, Apollitical Iceman, Dr Pepper 123, and Peppa completed the field.
