Entering the race as the reigning AQHA Champion 2-Year-Old, Political Twist, a son of Apollitical Jess out of the Tres Seis mare C Twister Seis, captured his second victory of 2026 in the 440-yard Grade 1 event.

Owned by La Feliz Montana Ranch and Ray Willis and bred in New Mexico by MJ Farms, Political Twist lived up to expectations with a commanding front-running victory in the $1,000,000 Grade 1 Rainbow Derby on Saturday night at The Downs at Albuquerque.

Ridden by Luis Martinez, the sorrel gelding broke sharply from the gate, quickly seized the lead, and never looked back. He covered the 440-yard distance in :20.942 seconds, earning a 101 Speed Index.

The dominant performance further established Political Twist as one of the leading 3-year-old Quarter Horses in the country, adding another prestigious Grade 1 victory to his résumé.
