AMARILLO, TX–JULY 11, 2026—The American Quarter Horse Foundation is awarding seven grants for equine research projects. These grants are awarded in alignment with research priority areas established by the AQHF Equine Research Committee and informed by feedback from a recent AQHA member survey on research priorities.

As one of the nation's top four private funders of equine research, the American Quarter Horse Foundation plays a vital role in advancing scientific discovery. Since 1960, the Foundation has awarded more than $14 million to colleges and universities to enhance understanding of equine health, management and overall welfare.

“Funding equine research projects is an exciting investment in the future of the industry, as it reflects the generosity of our donors and supports innovative work that can create lasting impact,” said Laura Owens, program director for the Foundation. “Through these research initiatives, the Foundation helps advance scientific knowledge, improve equine health and welfare, and strengthen the future of the American Quarter Horse industry for generations to come.”

The Foundation welcomes research proposals from nonprofit institutions conducting innovative, outcome-driven research that addresses its established funding priorities. Projects are selected based on their scientific merit, relevance to the Foundation’s mission, and potential to improve the health and well-being of the American Quarter Horse and the broader equine community.
