EL PASO, TX–FEBRUARY 2, 2026– With profound sadness, the family of Susan Dawson of El Paso, Texas, announces her passing on January 29, 2026, at the age of 78.

Known to most as Sue, and lovingly called SuSu by those closest to her, Susan was born in Cleveland and raised in El Paso. She was a graduate of Bel Air High School, where she was a member of the Bel Air Bagpipe Band. The friendships formed there remained an important and lasting part of her life.

Sue’s love of music continued well beyond high school. Many El Pasoans remember her as the lead female singer of the popular local band The Sojourners, where her voice and presence left a lasting impression on the community.

She later earned her master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Texas at El Paso. Although her professional career in counseling was brief. Sue spent much of her adult life traveling alongside her husband, television sports producer Tom Dawson, forming lifelong friendships across the country.

A devoted homemaker, Sue found her greatest joy in caring for those she loved. She was a wonderful cook whose meals became cherished traditions, filling her home with warmth, laughter, and unforgettable memories

Sue is survived by her husband of 45 years, Tom Dawson; her stepson, Ryan Dawson; her brother, Mark Urey (Terrie); stepbrothers Dick Snow (Liz) and Bill Snow; stepsisters Bobette Snow and Dawn Snow; nieces Andra Litton, Robin Fair, Kyleen Snow, and Krista Snow; nephews Scott Urey, Stephen Urey, Josiah Snow, and Luke Warbois; and her beloved grandchildren Elliot Urey, Hunter Dawson, Sawyer Dawson, and Bailey Dawson, each of whom carries forward her legacy of love, strength, and resilience.

Sue was the devoted partner of her husband of 45 years, Tom Dawson, an AQHA Hall of Fame inductee whose voice has been synonymous with Quarter Horse racing for more than five decades. Dawson has described many of the sport’s most iconic moments on national television and continues to serve the industry through his work on the AQHA Racing Committee. Behind his remarkable career stood Sue—his constant source of support..
