TQHA Expands Scholarship Opportunities for Texas Youth in the Equine Industry

ELGIN, TX–DECEMBER 10, 2025–The Texas Quarter Horse Association has updated its scholarship program, broadening eligibility and opening the door for more students connected to the racing and equine industry. Children and grandchildren of racing participants are now fully eligible, and scholarships may be used for undergraduate, post-graduate (including DVM), or vocational studies.

Applications are due January 6, 2026, and the updated form is available on the TQHA website.

Since its inception, the TQHA Foundation has awarded over $365,000 in scholarships to students who show leadership, strong academics, financial need, and meaningful involvement in equine-related activities—racing, ranching, showing, rodeo, 4-H, FFA, AQHA events, and more. Awards typically span two or four years.

Eligibility requirements include being a TQHYA or TQHA member in good standing, being a high school senior or a currently enrolled student at an accredited college, university, or vocational school, maintaining a minimum 2.5 GPA, and being a U.S. citizen and Texas resident. Previous recipients may reapply if pursuing post-graduate studies or seeking additional undergraduate funding when their initial award covered two years or less.

All materials must be received by January 6 and must include a completed, signed application, proof of membership, a personal summary outlining goals, equine involvement, and financial need, official transcripts, and three reference letters—one from a teacher and one from an individual familiar with the applicant’s equine activities, with Youth Advisors eligible to participate. Download the application HERE.

Questions may be directed to Scott Sherwood, TQHA Director of Racing at ssherwood@tqha.com or TQHA Director of Show Cheyenne Johanson at cjohanson@tqha.com.
