ELGIN, TX—OCTOBER 2, 2025—The Texas Quarter Horse Association (TQHA) has announced that regular nominations for the $75,000-added 2026 Texas Breeders Futurity are due October 15, 2025. The nomination fee is $250, and the race is open to all 2024 Accredited Texas-Bred foals.

This nomination period applies to horses not previously entered during the Early Bird phase, which closed May 1, 2025. Owners can access the nomination form through the TQHA website or via forms included with the association’s official notice.
Already Nominated? No Additional Fee
TQHA officials stressed that owners of horses nominated during the Early Bird period do not need to pay again. Instead, their next payment deadline will be November 15, 2025.
To help new owners, TQHA has posted an alphabetical list of Early Bird nominees on its website, or by CLICKING HERE. This makes it easy for buyers from recent sales—including the TQHA Yearling Sale, Ruidoso, or Heritage Place—to confirm if their purchase has already been entered.
Buyers are encouraged to file an Ownership Change Form if a horse changes hands to ensure they receive payment reminders.
Race Details
The 330-yard Texas Breeders Futurity is scheduled for Sam Houston Race Park, with trials on April 17, 2026, and the finals on May 9, 2026. Interest in the race is already strong, with 396 foals entered during the Early Bird period.
In addition to the lucrative purse, the event will offer $20,000 in nominators’ awards. The individuals who originally nominated the horses finishing first through fourth will share in the bonus, with $10,000 awarded for the winner, $5,000 for second, $3,000 for third, and $2,000 for fourth place—regardless of who owns the horse at race time.
Excitement Building
"The TQHA is very excited to continue offering this race in coordination with Sam Houston Race Park," Scott Sherwood, TQHA Director of Racing, said in a statement.
For additional information, forms, or questions, owners may visit the TQHA website or contact the association at (512) 458-5202.
