SHELBYVILLE, IN–APRIL 17, 2025–After a record-setting season in 2024, Indiana Quarter Horse racing is gaining momentum again in 2025 with a total of 30 stakes races scheduled, offering purses that exceed $2.38 million, setting a new record for stakes purses at Horseshoe Indianapolis.
Live Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing started on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, and will conclude on Thursday, November 13, 2025. Throughout April, live racing will operate on a limited schedule. Full racing is scheduled to begin on Saturday, May 3, coinciding with the racing program at Churchill Downs for the Derby Celebration.
Racing will then feature its Monday through Thursday weekly schedule, with the first post at 2:10 p.m. Select Saturday racing programs begin in June.
Six days of all-quarter Horse racing have been scheduled for the upcoming 123-day meet. Each race day will begin at 10:45 a.m. on select Saturdays: May 31, June 28, July 19, August 9, August 30, and October 4. These dates will feature trials and stakes finals, ensuring competitive racing events highlighting Quarter Horse racing.
Two Restricted Grade 3 races are presented again this year. The QHRAI Stallion Service Auction Futurity is scheduled for Saturday, August 30, 2025, as part of the six dedicated days of Quarter Horse racing, and the Miss Roxie Little Futurity will be held on Saturday, October 25.
Both races offered record purses in 2024, with the QHRAI Stallion Service Auction Futurity exceeding $200,000 for the first time in its 27-year history, reaching a total of $212,170, and the Miss Roxie Little featured a purse of $235,600.
Another season highlight is Quarter Horse Stakes Day on Saturday, July 19, featuring four stakes races. The day is led by the $150,000 Gordon Mobley Futurity, which boasted a purse of $193,700 in 2024. Other stakes on the day include the $100,000 Jaguar Rocket, the $100,000 Heartland Futurity, and the $100,000 Blue River Derby.
The Quarter Horse season will conclude on Saturday, October 25, during the sixth annual Indiana Champions Day. A total of six stakes and consolation races are set for the day, with final purses expected to exceed $800,000 again in 2025.
Last year, the largest purse in Indiana Quarter Horse history was recorded on Indiana Champions Day, as the Governor's Stakes—one of three races held during the inaugural season of pari-mutuel Quarter Horse racing in 1997—offered a final purse of $269,900, demonstrating the growth of the Indiana program.
