ROCK SPRINGS, WY–APRL 9, 2025–Today, Wyoming Horse Racing LLC (WHR) announced the hiring of Sean Beirne as General Manager of the Sweetwater Downs horse track in Rock Springs.
As General Manager of Sweetwater Downs, Beirne will oversee WHR's racing operations, staffing, regulatory compliance, and the overall race day experience for riders, trainers and fans alike. A key focus of his role will also include maintaining the highest standards of track safety, ensuring a secure, well-managed track for both equine and human athletes.
"Sean will be a great asset to the Wyoming Horse Racing team as we continue to invest in the future of the horse industry in Wyoming," said Eugene Joyce, President of Racing for Wyoming Horse Racing LLC. "His expertise in the sport and industry will be valuable as we grow racing operations and develop new opportunities for racing professionals and fans."
With more than three decades of experience in horse racing operations, management, education and broadcasting, Beirne brings a track record of leadership from some of the nation's most respected horse industry operations. He has held executive roles at Evangeline Downs, Arapahoe Park and River Downs where he expanded simulcast networks and enhanced live racing programs. Beirne also directed U.S. operations for international racing content, bringing global racing products to American audiences. In addition to his industry roles, he served as Director of the University of Louisville's Equine Industry Program and was a longtime member of the Colorado State Racing Commission, including two years as Chairman.
"Sweetwater Downs has a strong foundation and bright future, and I am excited to build on that momentum," said Beirne. "I am looking forward to working with the WHR team, engaging with the community and collaborating closely with the Wyoming Gaming Commission staff. Ensuring a safe and competitive meet will remain as a core focus," Beirne added. "This year, we will deliver another successful season and continue to put horse racing on strong footing as we grow the industry in Wyoming."
Sweetwater Downs will host 18 days of live racing beginning on August 16, 2025.
