Longtime Texas Horseman Joe Rios Passes Away 

EL PASO, TX–DECEMBER 14, 2022–Longtime livestock trader Joe Rios, 63, passed away Monday, December 12. He was a lifetime resident of El Paso, Texas.

A visitation for Joe will be held Friday, December 16, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM (CST) at Martin Funeral Home East, 1460 George Dieter Drive, El Paso, TX 79936. Interment will be at Ft. Hancock Cemetery.

A well respected horsemen that was not only an owner, Joe also worked as horse agent in the Quarter Horse racing industry.

Rios owned such standout runners as West Texas Futurity (G1) winner Suze Returns and Eagles And Dragons, a New Mexico bred finalist to the world's richest Quarter Horse race, the All American Futurity(G1) at Ruidoso Downs.

According to Equibase statistics Joe race 17 winners from 2018 thru 2022 with earnings of $728,836. He also campaigned Hobbs American Derby(G2) winner Fantastic Feature Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Leslie Rios; daughter, Callie Rios-Hall and Seth; son, Joe Karl Rios and Kelly, two grandchildren Vida Kay and Joe Cruz, and Nikki Rios Folmer and Jason Rios which he thought of them more like his children than niece and nephew. Joe is survived by four brothers, Robert Morales, Cruz Rios, Jr., Manny Rios, and Oscar Rios.

Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Refugio Rios, and his father, Cruz Rios.

Pallbearers are Jeremy Samaniego, Jerffrey Samaniego, Jonathan Samaniego, Carlitos Samaniego, Ulyses Ramirez, and Kiki Herrera.

Honorary pallbearers are Efren Azarte, Kenny Carroll, Tom Engle, Gustavo Gonzales, Pancho Gonzales, Gerry Hines, Donnie Larmon, Charlie Medina, Bill Owen, Bobby Simmons, Isaac Solis, Jerry Speer, Blake Thompson, Cecil White, Jon Witte and Jaime Venegas.
