Go Man Go Memorial Nears Completion at Ruidoso Downs

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—APRL 7, 2016—The Go Man Go Memorial at Ruidoso Downs is nearly completed with addition of Go Man Go’s cremated remains and landscaping this week.

The only remaining addition is a bronze plaque describing the three-time world champion Go Man Go’s accomplishments.

Go Man Go, a 1953 foal, was world champion from 1955-1957 and was the racehorse that propelled quarter horse racing’s popularity during the early years of the pari-mutuel era.

The Top Deck (TB) son may become the only colt to ever be world champion at two, three and four. That’s because in today’s market a colt that was world champion at two would probably be retired and if he was world champion at two and three he would almost certainly be headed to the breeding shed.

Dr. Leonard places majority of Go Man Go’s remains by his memorial near the Ruidoso Downs’ infield winner’s circle, which will now be called the Go Man Go winner’s circle. The remainder on his cremated remains is located in the Ruidoso Downs’ Racehorse Hall of Fame. © Ty Wyant
Sometimes called a rogue, in his first start he burst through the starting gate, ran around the track, was reloaded and won the race. He went on to win 27 of 47 starts with 17 stakes wins. He set three track records and world records at 350 yards and 440 yards.

Dr. Leonard Blach, the resident veterinarian at Buena Suerte Ranch, said Go Man Go became a gentleman in his later years when he stood at Buena Suerte Ranch near Roswell, New Mexico.

His remains were moved from the former Buena Suerte Ranch to Ruidoso Downs with Blach handling the negotiations with the ranch’s current owners. Ruidoso Downs’ management is ecstatic to add the Go Man Go Memorial.

Go Man Go became a leading sire. He sired seven champions and 83 stakes winners, including two All American Futurity winners. His daughters produced numerous stakes winners, including two-time world champion Kaweah Bar and All American Futurity winner Rocket Wrangler, the sire of two-time world champion Dash For Cash. Two-time Champion of Champions winner Dash for Cash was the all-time leading sire of money earners until he was surpassed by his son First Down Dash.

The roan Go Man Go is a member of the Ruidoso Downs’ Racehorse Hall of Fame and the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame.

The Ruidoso Downs’ summer racing season starts on May 27 and there will be a ceremony honoring Go Man Go on opening weekend. The meet ends on Labor Day with the Grade 1, $3 million All American Futurity.
