LOS ALAMITOS, CA—APRIL 25, 2012—Patricia Lynn Childers Muzio passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loved ones following a yearlong battle with cancer on March 27, 2012. Born on September 20, 1941, she was the only child of legendary Hall of Fame owner and breeder Spencer L. Childers and his beloved wife, Florence E. Childers.
Pat grew up treasuring her parents and was very proud of their legacy and many accomplishments. After the passing of her father in 2009, Pat was honored to take over the Childers Ranch in Fresno, California. The horse operation would eventually be moved to Templeton, California, where the family continued implementing the Childers brand of breeding and racing.
“It is truly humbling to walk in my father's footsteps but we do it with tremendous pride,” Pat wrote on the ranch’s website.
Pat attended high school in Scottsdale, Arizona and Clovis, California. She studied real estate at Fresno City College and was a real estate broker in Fresno for many years, and started her own agency in the 1970s named the Old Fresno Company.
“My mother loved horses and cared for them like beloved pets, and respected them like champion athletes,” said her daughter, Deborah Muzio Lopez. “My mother was an avid and gifted crafter known for her knitting, sewing, and needlepoint skills, talents she no doubt inherited from her mother.”
“A few days before she died, my brother and I took the screen off her window and pushed her bed as close to it as we could. David got her horse, Cash, and brought him up to the window so my Mom could see him. It brought her so much joy just to be near him. The memory is bitter sweet for me. She will be greatly missed,” she added.
Patricia Lynn Childers Muzio was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her two children, David Spencer Muzio, 48, and Deborah Muzio Lopez, 42. David is married to Olga Muzio and the couple has two children, Avaristo Spencer Muzio, 3 and Dasha Estelle Muzio, 3 months. They live in Templeton, CA. Deborah is married to James William Lopez. They have 2 children, Sydney Claire Lopez, 10 and Kyle Beckham Lopez, 6. They live in Fresno, CA. She is also survived by her uncle and aunt Gordon and Dorothy Childers of Huntington Beach.
