SHAKOPEE, MN–AUGUST 11, 2022–Leading trainer Jason Olmstead scored a triple blacktype whammy late Thursday evening with a win, place and show in the $28,000 Skip Zimmerman Memorial Stakes at Canterbury Park. Winner of the 350-yards stakes race for three year old and up quarter horses was Dickey Bob. 

Ridden by Ramiro Garcia, Dickey Bob made a steady bid for the finish line taking the lead at first call and keeping it to the wire. Dickey Bob clocked a 107 speed index in :17.359, only .006 seconds off the track record set by his brother Jess Rocket Man on July 14 in the Bob Moorehouse Stakes. With 8/13 odds to start, the winning effort paid betting spectators $5.20 on a $2 wager.

Dickey Bob’s 1/2-length victory over full brother Jess Rocket Man was his fourth win and second stakes win of the 2022 season, including the Prairie Dash Stakes earlier in July. The 7-year-old gelding has visited the winner’s circle 23 times in his career, 11 of them stakes wins, with a bankroll of $380,250, which is the most earnings ever by a Minnesota bred quarter horse.

Post-time favorite Jess Rocket Man, guided by Edwin Escobedo, broke from the gates in first but was outfinished by his brother, breaking his three win streak for the 2022 season. The four-year-old gelding has nine career wins with $155,492 in the bank.

The brothers are both owned and bred by Lunderborg, LLC of Minnesota. The two sons of champion sire Apollitical Jess are out Paint Or More by Pyc Paint Your Wagon

Coming in third 1 1/4-lengths behind Jess Rocket Man was Shes Already Famous with Armando Alvidrez in the saddle. The 4-year-old filly by Mr Jess Perry has won $38,888 in career earnings. Owned and bred by Grant Farms she is out of Famous Corona Lady by Corona Cartel.

The remaining order of finish was Hr Storm On In, Fdd Texas Tea and Fosse.
