VINTON, LA–JUNE 24, 2022 Graded stakes winner San Lorenzo Jet pushed his perfect record to 3-for-3 Friday night after a dominating 2-1/4 length winning performance to the set the fastest time on Night 1 of the $700,000-est. Lee Berwick Futurity(RG1) trials at Delta Downs.

Tonight's five qualifiers will join five other state-bred 2-year-olds, from Saturday's eight qualifying trials, to compete in the rich Lee Berwick Futurity(RG1) final on Delta Downs QH Closing Night card Saturday, July 16.

San Lorenzo Jet bumped at the start then rallied under jockey David Alvarez to complete the 350 yards in :17.521 seconds, an 89 speed index into a 5 mph crosswind. Trainer Jesus Marquez conditions the son of multiple stakes winner Jet Black Patriot for owner Rogelio Marquez, Jr.

"He was one of my favorite colts at the LQHBA Yearling Sale," said Marquez. "He was a big horse, but well-balanced and very athletic and I remember telling (breeder) Tim Rogers how much I liked him. It was when we saw him run in his schooling race at Delta, that we thought we had a good one!"

Undefeated in three starts, San Lorenzo Jet entered the trials off a 1-1/2 length win in the restricted Grade 2 $331,880 Louisiana Laddie Futurity at Delta May 28th.

Bred by Rogers Farm (Tim and Jennie Rogers), from the Fly Jess Fly mare Miss Delta Duck, the $49,000 LQHBA Yearling Sale graduate has banked $181,2259 this season.

Marquez and Marquez teamed with jockey J.R. Ramirez to also get the fifth fastest qualifying time with San Lorenzo Train, a son of world champion sire Frieghttrain B.

"Breeder Rob Redding called me a year ago and told me about this colt," recalled Marquez. "He's by Freighttrain B, and I also really liked his dam, Moehrig, who was a half-sister to champion Eyesa Special.

San Lorenzo Train, a $60,000 LQHBA Yearling Sale graduate, got his first win in two starts in the fourth trial while clocking a :17.827 seconds for the 350 yards off a 1-1/2 length win.

"San Lorenzo Train ran in a trial for the Laddie, but my Dad and I decided to keep him fresh for the Lee Berwick. It was nice to see him break the maiden and run such a good race."

Jerry Deville, Jr.'s Party Tyme rolled to a three-quarter length win in the final trial to clock the second fastest time of :17.684 seconds, an 87 speed index into a 5 mph crosswind. Trainer Jose Lopez  conditions the $30,000 LQHBA Sale graduate by multiple stakes sire Five Bar Cartel.

"She's a big mare and doesn't away too quickly," said Lopez. "In her Lassie trial, she got cut off so we ran her in a maiden (on May 25) and she won.  She changed gears in the last 50 yards and showed that same kick in her Lee Berwick trial.  We are blessed to have her!"

CP Equine Partners bred the two-time winner from the Dashin Bye mare Dashin Kate Perry. Party Tyme has earned $19,800 in three starts.

Five Bar Cartel was the only sire with multiple qualifiers on Night 1 of the Lee Berwick Futurity trials.
