Relentless Summer Gets Fastest Time For Prairie Meadows Gold Futurity Off Impressive Performance

ALTOONA, IA—JUNE 20, 2022—In just his second career start, Relentless Summer raced to a 1-1/4 length trial win while setting the fastest qualifying time for the Prairie Meadows Gold Futurity Monday afternoon at Prairie Meadows.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from six trials races conducted today, will return to the Iowa raceway on Friday July 10th to vie for the winners' share of the $163,750 purse going 350 yards.

Under jockey Alfredo Triana, Jr., Relentless Summer dueled early then cleared the field late to post the top clocking of :18.005 seconds into a 5 mph headwind. The son of multiple stake sire Hes Relentless entered the trials off an unplaced troubled performance in his career debut April 29th at Remington Park.

Trainer Alex Wessels saddled the $35,000 Heritage Place September Yearling Sale graduate for owner Alfredo Botello. Michelle Maiwes bred the gray colt in Oklahoma from the Royal Quick Dash mare Summertime Dash. A half-brother to LQHBA Million Futurity(RG1) winner Mardi Gras Paint, Relentless Summer is from the family of champion Foose.

Surprise Party, a Utah-bred son of first-crop sire / champion Kvn Corona, broke his maiden in the opening trial to get the second fastest time of :18.007. The bay gelding owned by Tom Maher and Paul Luedemann, was the fastest of four qualifiers for trainer Jason Olmstead.

McColee Land & Livestock LLC bred the bay gelding from the  first crop of Grade 1 Sooner State Stakes winner VF Red Surprise by First Prize Stanley. Surprise Party is a $54,000 Heritage Place Fall Mixed Sale graduate.

Olmstead's other qualifiers include 5th fastest Fox News, 6th fastest Water Or Corona and 9th fastest Double Didget.

Stacy Charette-Hill was he only other trainer with multiple qualifiers, getting two into the July 10th final.

First crop sire Kvn Corona was the only sire getting multiple qualifiers with two.
