Bigg Brown Sets New Track Record In The Gillette Open Maturity

GILLETTE, WY–JUNE 18, 2022–The post-time favorite and fastest qualifier Bigg Brown is on a 3 win streak after scoring a victory in the Gillette Open Maturity at Energy Downs bringing home $21,025 for his share of the pot.

The gelding son of Choctaw River busted out of the gates in third place and dueled his way between foes to cross the wire first for a 1/2 length victory over stablemate Cowboyhatbygucci. 

Bigg Brown blew his previous time in the trials of :20.207 out of the water clocking a 114 speed index in :19.498 seconds and setting a new track record over Senators Revenge who held it in :19.766.

In the irons for this 400-yard race was Edgar Ramirez, who was given the chance to ride Bigg Brown after his jockey from the trials Urial Domingez opted to ride fourth place finisher Cowboyhatbygucci. Both Bigg Brown and Cowboyhatbygucci were conditioned by Uriel Dominguez, Sr.

Bigg Brown has lit the board in every out from 16 starts with an impressive 10 wins for owners/breeders Dan and Kim Lapierre. The 3-year-old gelding is out of Purrfect Eve by Devon Lane has won 3 stakes races in his career and banked $76,289 in lifetime earnings.

Runner-up Eyesa Special Hachet, under Luis Peralta, came in third but was bumped up to second after Cowboyhatbygucci was disqualified and moved to fourth. It was a photo finish for the 4-year-old gelding kept who up the pace and clocked a 112 speed index in :19.566 coming in only a nose behind. 

Conditioned by Jesse Villegas, Eyes Special Hachet has lit up the board 14 out of 16 starts with 6 wins, including the Rock Springs Wyoming Accredited Stallion Derby. The son of Eyesa Special Slim is out of Streaking Ruby Red by Rolls Of Romance and is owned/bred by Broken Bones Cattle Co. 

3-time stakes winner Sables Dashin placed fourth 1 1/4 lengths behind Eyesa Special Hachet, but was bumped to third for the disqualification. Conditioned by Mark Hanson, the 5-year-old gelding was ridden by Jarell James

The son of FDD Dynasty has earned $71,706 in career earnings for owners Robin Dunn, Larry Chapple and RTM Stables, LLC. Bred by Bob Moore Farms, LLC he is out of Painted Sable by Pyc Paint Your Wagon. Sables Dashin sold in the 2018 Heritage Place Yearling Sale for $51,000.

The remaining order of finish is Cowboyhatbygucci, Brindis Cruz, Cir Lady Moon, Dashing Coronado, Prit Pro, Kay Cross Conman and Blazinberryberryfast.
