Fastest Qualifier Cayenneoverthemoon Returns To Win Wyoming QH Bred Derby

GILLETTE, WY—JUNE 18, 2022—Fastest qualifier Cayenneoverthemoon returned Saturday to post a dominating two-length win in the $56,550 Wyoming QH Bred Derby at Energy Downs.

Under jockey Shaunda Larsen, Cayenneoverthemoon drew away from the field easily while stopping the clock in :17,545 seconds, equaling a 97 speed index into a 10 mph headwind for the 350 yards. It was the third-career win for the daughter of multiple stakes sire Brindia Por Cayenne.

Trainer Jess Matt conditions the chestnut filly for owner Waler Larson. Bred by S Bar S, from the Apollo (TB) mare Dashmetothemoon, Cayenneoverthemoon earned $28,275 to increase her lifetime mark to $51,452. The Wyoming Bred Derby was the first career stakes win for the filly who second in the Wyoming-Bred Futurity at Rock Springs last September.

One Handsome Dash, a son of multiple stakes sire One Handsome Man, earned $11,310 for his second-place effort. Owned-and-trained by Benjamin Villegas, the bay gelding was ridden by jockey Manuel Meza. Ral and Luis Caballero bred One Handsome Dash from the Heza Fast Dash mare Cats Last Dash. Still a maiden, he has earned $17,067 in nine career starts.

Robert Fox's Moxies Dynasty finished a nose back to earn $5,655 for third. Martha Maldonado trains the son of multiple stakes sire Jr Dynasty Mountain from the Mr Fancy Fame mare Moxie Mamma.  Valente Vorrath had the riding call aboard the Allreds Horse Haven bred gelding.

Completing the field were Fellasapayne, Vvr Workin Man, Diamond Dusting, Bdr Slew, Cd Gretta Da Great, Yo Fifty Lil Secret and Ashley D.
