Cajun King Fires Off Layoff To Set Fastest Time In Black Gold 350 Championship Futurity Trials

CLAREMORE, OK—SEPTEMBER 7, 2019—Cajun King, a son of champion sire The Louisiana Cartel, rolled to a 1-¼ length win in Saturday's Black Gold 350 Championship Futurity trials on Saturday at Will Rogers Downs.

Making his first start since the June 1st Heritage Place Juvenile Stakes the brown gelding covered 350 yards in :17.632 seconds, equaling a 93 speed index, to garner the top qualifying time of the day while breaking his maiden.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from the 77 two-year-olds who competed in eight trial races today, will return to Will Rogers Downs on Sunday, September 22nd to vie for the winner's share of $252,876 purse. Another $13,309 will be awarded in Black Gold stallion awards.

Cajun King was the fastest of four Black Gold Futurity qualifiers for trainer Eddie D. Willis on Saturday.

An Oklahoma homebred racing for Able Flores, Cajun King has compiled a (5) 1-2-0 record this season and has banked $16,507. He is out of the Scrutinizer mare Easydoesitcindy. Jimmy D. Brooks was riding.

Justine Klaiber had the riding call for Willis on the second fastest qualifier, Lakshmi J, a daughter of leading second-crop sire Coronado Cartel.

Also making her first start since Remington Park, Lakshmi J broke her maiden in the seventh trial (race 9) with a half-length winning effort in the second fastest time of :17.704 seconds, a 91 speed index.

The bay filly is an Oklahoma homebred for owner/breeder Alona James, from the Streak And Dash mare The Dashing Attitude. She has earned $14,012 off a (5) 1-2-1 record.

Willis other two qualifier were Wagons Dash 9th and Bp Apollitical South 10th.
