ELGIN, TX–MARCH 4, 2025–TQHA, in conjunction with with Sam Houston Race Park, will be sponsoring a new Futurity starting in 2026 that is for ACCREDITED TEXAS BREDS.
The futurity will be named the Texas Breeders' Futurity and will be open to ACCREDITED TEXAS BRED foals of 2024. The race will offer $75,000 Added in purse money and will be run at 330 Yards.
The trials will be in late April, with the final in mid-May. Exact dates for the trials and finals will be announced later.
Unlike the TQHA Sale Futurity, this race is open to ALL Accredited Texas Bred foals of 2024. You do not have to have gone through the TQHA Sale to be eligible. All horses must be accredited Texas Bred at the time of nomination.
"Over the past few years, owners and breeders have asked about having a futurity restricted to Accredited Texas Breds and not tied to the TQHA Yearling Sale," TQHA Director of Racing Scott Sherwood said. "We discussed this with the tracks, and the folks at Sam Houston Race Park jumped at the chance to host it. We are very pleased to have them as partners in this race."
Early Bird Nominations will be due May 1, 2025. This will allow TQHA, Ruidoso, Heritage Place, and Los Alamitos to list the Texas Breeders' Futurity in their 2025 sale catalogs as an "Engagement."
Any and all Accredited Texas Bred foals of 2024 can make the Early Bird Nomination payment. CLICK HERE to download a nomination blank now. The nomination form will also be available on the association's website, tqha.com, in the coming days.
"Over the past four years, an average of 730 horses have been race-accredited each year, making the pool of horses eligible for this race very large," Sherwood says.
TQHA will also have a spot on the 2025 TQHA Yearling Sale Consignment form to indicate if you want to nominate for this race. Consigners can check the box and send a separate payment of $100 for the Early Bird Consignment and your consignment fee payment.
If you pay your consignment fee with a credit card, TQHA can run the card for an additional $100 for the Texas Breeders' Futurity nomination. You do not need to fill out the regular nomination blank if you nominate your horse(s) on the soon-to-be-released yearling sale consignment form.
Questions about this race can be directed to the TQHA at (512) 458-5202 or email Director Of Racing Scott Sherwood at ssherwod@tqha.com.
