Retama Park will host trials for the Colors of the Alamo Paint & Appaloosa Futurity on Thursday's race card.

SELMA, TX–AUGUST 4, 2026–Retama Park opens its racing weekend Thursday night with a nine-race program highlighted by the first two races, in which 16 talented Paint and Appaloosa juveniles will compete in the Colors of the Alamo Paint & Appaloosa Futurity Trials. First post is scheduled for 6:45 p.m., with the 2-year-olds racing to post one of the ten fastest qualifying times for the August 22 Colors of the Alamo Paint & Appaloosa Futurity.

The opening trial features Jvm Hot Victoria as the 2-1 morning-line favorite. The filly enters the trials in top form after capturing the TPHBA Paint Horse Juvenile Stakes, her third win in five career starts, and adding a runner-up finish. Her consistent campaign has produced earnings of $27,646.

Owned and bred in Texas by Juan Luis Leon, Jvm Hot Victoria is by Chilitos and out of the Gol to Go mare Victoria Camila. Wendy Alejandra Garcia trains the promising filly and will once again team up with her son, jockey Rosendo E. Pina Garcia, as they break from post seven in search of another win.

The second and final trial looks especially competitive, led by Miss Chilitos, the 5-2 morning-line favorite. The filly has proven she can compete at the highest level by qualifying for the Grade 1 TQHA Sale Futurity against Quarter Horses, where she finished eighth. Earlier this season, she established herself among the top Paint and Appaloosa juveniles by posting the fastest qualifying time for the Grade 2 Colors of Houston Futurity at Sam Houston, then finished a strong third in the final, beaten by just three-quarters of a length. Racing for Edgar Rivera Hernandez, she has earned $44,438.

Bred in Texas by Connie Nobles, the daughter of Chilitos is out of the Stoli mare Tahiti Evening. Jose Ivan Martinez conditions the filly, who will break from post seven, with Oliver E. Martinez returning to the saddle.

Looming as her toughest challenger is Tc Abanero, who has been installed as the 3-1 second choice on the morning line. The gelding exits a respectable fifth-place finish in his first attempt against Quarter Horses, having previously captured the Grade 2 Colors of Houston Futurity. His versatility and proven stakes-winning ability make him a serious contender in the final trial.

Owned by Chile Piquin Partnership, Tc Abanero has earned $32,496 in his young career. The son of Chilitos is out of the First Moonflash mare Take Off Helene FMF and was bred in Texas by Toribio Carillo. Zackery N. Rios will send him out from post six, where he will line up directly alongside Miss Chilitos, with Nestor Duran named to ride.

With only two trial heats and ten qualifying spots, every stride will be critical as the talented group of Paint and Appaloosa juveniles kicks off Retama Park's weekend of racing. The competition promises an exciting start to the festivities as the sport's rising stars aim to secure their place in the Colors of the Alamo Paint & Appaloosa Futurity on August 22.
