His qualifiers include Man for Cos, the third-fastest; Vigilanty, the fourth-fastest; Mp Coco Pilot, the fifth-fastest; Mr La, the eighth-fastest; and Epyphany, the ninth-fastest. Earlier this season, he qualified for the Grade 2 Louisiana Bred Laddie Futurity, but a troubled trip kept him from showing his best after breaking inward and struggling to find his footing. The gelding has won three of four career starts, earning $23,759.

The Restricted Grade 3 $131,287 Delta Downs Louisiana Bred Derby headlines race nine at approximately 9:35 p.m. The field features the 10 fastest Louisiana-bred colts and geldings from the June 18 trial heats, all competing over 400 yards.

Fastest qualifier Valiant Heart Z has been installed as the 8-5 morning-line favorite after a front-running, three-quarter-length victory in his trial. The gelding remains unbeaten in two starts this season and continues to build on a successful juvenile campaign that included a win in the LQHBA Louisiana Bred Million Invitational Stakes.

Owned by Luis Armando Castellanos, who purchased him for $25,000 at the LQHBA Yearling Sale, Valiant Heart Z has won five races and earned $86,645. The talented filly has won four of five starts this season, including the Grade 3 Mardi Gras Oaks, and has also qualified for the Grade 2 Heritage Place Oaks. As a 2-year-old, she finished second in the Grade 2 Louisiana Bred Lassie Futurity.
