EVANSTON, WY–JUNE 10, 2026–The road to Wyoming’s richest juvenile championship begins Friday afternoon at Wyoming Downs, where an action-packed eleven-race program kicks off at 3:00 p.m. The spotlight will shine on 103 Wyoming-bred two-year-olds competing in eleven trial heats for the 307 HR Wyoming Bred Futurity. Each young prospect will cover 300 yards with one goal: securing one of the ten fastest qualifying times and a coveted berth in the June 27 final of the $100,000-added 307 HR Wyoming Bred Quarter Horse Futurity.
As the afternoon unfolds, trainer Jess R. Matt will send out eight starters across the trials, but his attention may be fixed on the day's final heat. In race eleven, Cayenne Chrome enters as the 5-2 morning-line favorite after showing promising improvement in his most recent outing. The colt broke sharply and held his advantage to score a half-length maiden victory, giving him the confidence needed heading into the biggest test of his young career.
Owned by Lana Matt and bred in Wyoming by Jewel Vreeman, Cayenne Chrome is a son of Brindis Por Cayenne out of the Awesome Chrome (PT) mare A Dash O Chrome (PT). Breaking from post eight, he will once again ride with jockey Jacob Cardenas as he attempts to establish himself as one of the leading contenders for the futurity crown.
Earlier on the card in race eight, Mario Cartell, the 3-1 morning-line favorite, will look to continue his upward trajectory. The gelding enters the trials fresh off a maiden-breaking victory on May 31, when he finished strongly to secure a half-length win. Another clean trip could make him a serious threat to reach the final.
Bred in Wyoming, Mario Cartell is the son of Tell Cartel out of the First To Shine mare Alltheshine. He was bred by J. P. Samples. Trained by Urield Lucero Dominguez, Mario Cartell will leave from post nine with jockey Gerado Vera aboard.
One of the more intriguing runners of the afternoon appears in race five, where The Blues Brothers has been installed as the 3-1 morning-line favorite. Although still a maiden, the gelding showed ability in his lone career start, despite breaking out and racing greenly throughout before finishing second. With that experience behind him, he returns with a chance to take a significant step forward.
Bred in Wyoming by Gary Laramie, The Blues Brothers is by Mister Moody Blue and out of the Bridlewood mare Gl Run Away Bride. He races for Toni Greene and is trained by Skyler Greene. Jockey Jayden R. Ironeyes will have the call from post four as they pursue a qualifying performance.
From the opening trial to the final dash of the afternoon, Wyoming’s next generation of Quarter Horse talent will be on full display. With 103 hopefuls vying for just ten spots in the final, every stride will matter as these young runners aim to turn early promise into a shot at futurity glory. Fans and bettors can expect a thrilling afternoon of racing as the quest for the 307 HR Wyoming Bred Futurity championship officially begins.
