GILLETTE, WY–MAY 22, 2026–The Sunday afternoon card at Energy Downs 307 Horse Racing promises an exciting day of Quarter Horse racing as ten races are set to unfold with first post scheduled for 1:30 PM. The spotlight of the afternoon shines on the sixth race, the $35,500 Energy Downs Stakes, where a talented field of seasoned runners will battle at 400 yards in what shapes up to be one of the most competitive races on the card.
Set to load into the gate at approximately 4:00 PM, the field features accomplished older horses with proven class, speed, and earning power, setting the stage for a thrilling showdown that could come down to the final stride.
Among the top contenders is Pappas Fame, the second-highest money earner in the field with $220,999 banked throughout his accomplished career. The five-year-old gelding enters Sunday’s feature making his first start of the 2026 season after preparing sharply with a pair of bullet workouts, signaling he could return in peak form.
Now racing for new owners Hensley Ranch and Lance Hensley after being purchased for $30,000 at the Heritage Place Winter Mix Sale, Pappas Fame brings proven stakes experience and consistency into the feature event. The gelded son of Pappasito out of the Maknmoves mare Makn Fame was bred in Wyoming by Ron and Laurie Moosman and has built a reputation as a tough competitor against graded stakes company.
Trainer Savana Canales will saddle the talented runner from post seven while jockey Jesus J. Canales gets the call aboard as they look to capture the gelding’s tenth career victory.
With accomplished veterans lining the gate and several proven stakes performers ready to fire fresh efforts, fans and bettors can expect an explosive 400-yard dash and a potential blanket finish in the $35,500 Energy Downs Stakes Sunday afternoon at Energy Downs 307 Horse Racing.
