SAM HOUSTON, TX–May 17, 2026 The Thursday evening card at Sam Houston Race Park promises an exciting night of Quarter Horse racing, headlined by three sets of trials. With two trials for the Colors of Houston Futurity, four for the Sam Houston Oaks, and three for the Sam Houston Derby, the evening will showcase both proven runners and emerging talent, all seeking their chance to shine.

In the Colors of Houston Futurity Trials, twenty juveniles will compete in two trial heats, races two and three, each set at 300 yards. The talented two-year-olds are preparing to make their mark as they compete for the ten fastest qualifying times for the Grade 2, $40,000-added Colors of Houston Futurity final.

In the second race and the opening trial heat, Jvm Hot Victoria enters as the 2-1 morning-line favorite. The filly began her career at Remington Park in March, winning her debut in a thrilling three-way battle, digging in late to capture the victory by a neck. She then shipped to Sam Houston and delivered another solid effort, finishing second to Quarter Horses in the Texas Breeders’ Futurity Trials.

The Texas-bred dual-registered filly has compiled a 2-1-1-0 record while earning $9,140 for owner Juan Luis Leon. She is sired by Chilitos and out of the Gol To Go mare Victoria Camila. Trainer Wendy Alejandra Garcia will saddle the filly from post two and will have her son, jockey Rosendo E. Pina-Garcia, ride her in the assignment.

The third race and final trial heat features Miss Chilitos as the 7-5 morning-line favorite. The filly debuted in the Louisiana Downs Futurity Trials, where she encountered trouble in her first outing. She rebounded impressively after shipping to Sam Houston. Facing maiden fillies at 300 yards, she broke her maiden in dominant fashion, drawing away to win by one and one-half lengths.

Thursday evening will mark her first attempt against Paint competition. She races for Edgar Rivera Hernandez, who purchased her for $13,500 at the TQHA Sale. The Texas-bred daughter of Chilitos, out of the Stoli mare Tahiti Evening, was bred by Connie Nobles. Jose Ivan Martinez conditions the filly to race from post seven, with Oliver E. Martinez aboard.

The two trial heats promise plenty of excitement as these young Paint runners continue to develop and seek a breakout performance. At this stage of the season, many juveniles are still learning and improving with each start, making Thursday night an opportunity for nearly any contender to rise to the occasion and establish themselves as serious futurity prospects.

As the twenty juveniles battle at 300 yards, the ten fastest qualifiers will return for the Grade 2, $40,000-added Colors of Houston Futurity Final on June 6. The evening will also feature the Grade 2, $20,000-added Colors of Texas Paint Maturity and the $15,000 Guaranteed Colors of Houston Juvenile for the next ten fastest qualifiers. The preview of the Grade 3, $100,000-added Sam Houston Derby and the $50,000-added Sam Houston Oaks is available in the related story.
